That's insane! These cars are clearly being sold to collectors who intend to put them on display in a museum or a private collection.

You'd think the US Government would want to allow GM to raise as much cash a possible.

The Govt. will probably sell them just as soon as they can get their hands on them or some of the politicians will take them for themselves.

Any further truth to the rumor that, as a backdrop to the impending Chapter 11 reorganization filing from GM, that they will be setting up dunk tank booths at all remaining dealerships and offering 3 throws/$1.00 to drown "former union bosses" as a way of raising additional funds?

Just another example of how fecked up our national govt is at the moment...

PROBLEM SOLVED :

FROM SPORTS CAR MARKET MAGAZINE :

GM Cars Back for Sale at B-J

West Palm Beach, Florida: The following statement was released by Barrett-Jackson this morning: "The Acting Administrator of NHTSA, Ron Medford, has communicated to Barrett-Jackson that previous issues concerning the sales of the GM Collection have been resolved and all sales can go forward."

Reportedly, negotiations between GM, Barrett-Jackson and NHTSA led to an agreement, emphasizing that the cars being sold on "salvage" or "not able to be registered for the road" status were under no circumstances to be registered for road use.

Midway through Thursday's collector car sale, representatives of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) forced Barrett-Jackson to stop the sale of certain cars from the GM Heritage Fleet, due to concerns about buyers attempting to register non-qualifying vehicles for street use.

Find out more about Barrett-Jackson, NHTSA, and GM.

They didn't have any such concerns for the cars that went through BJ in Scottsdale in January. Every car had that disclaimer read. I frankly got tired of hearing it. They could have said

This car cannot be driven on the street and if you buy it it will forever be a garage queen or you might get a ticket. Let's have a show of hands of people who do not completely understand this.
