Jeez, 4 pages of whining and complaining about a friggin seatbelt law.

Have any of you guys seen the direction of our country these days?

Socialism is just around the corner and you're crying about having a seat belt law enforced?

If you don't want a ticket, wear the belt. It's that simple.

If you want to live in a country that has no seatbelt laws, move to Mexico!

My 32 year old nephew moved to Colorado so he wouldn't have to wear a helmet while riding his crotch rocket.

We buried him last Sunday!

You'll love this one...

In Florida it's legal to ride in the bed of a pickup truck, however if your in the front seat you must wear a seat belt. The seatbelt law was enacted right at the same time the mandatory helmet law was abolished.

Heard of a fellow that got in a wreck while picking his nose, drove his finger right into his brain. Perhaps the legislature can assign a staff of researchers to look into this hidden killer.

There's a lot better odds that cheeseburger you just huffed down will kill you, or the cancer gene you inherited from your parents (last I checked it was still legal to clog your arteries). Ejections are not very common, more often than not the car crushes in on you. Steering wheel chrushes your chest in and you spend the last moments of your life coughing blood over the dash.

People that work in emergency services lose persective of how real the danger is since they respond to these accidents for a living, in their eyes it's easy to think "it happens all the time!" in reality it doesn't considering the sheer hours/years that people spend behind the wheel. Who has a wreck every say 10yrs? I've had two in 30yrs of driving, both minor. One my fault one not. Both times not wearing a seat belt, didn't matter.

I guess my question would be where was all this concern when the tax revenue was just a'flowin in???

Sorry JHV, that is exactly what this thread is about. 600,000 Americans are losing their jobs each month with no end in sight. Millions with jobs are hanging by their teeth, facing wage and hours cuts. 12% of America is behind on their mortgage and at risk of losing their home. So what do the police in counties and cities do? Turn up the heat to preserve their jobs by issuing $200-$300 fines to people leaving the shopping mall or moving their car from one side of the street to the other without a seatbelt on. 10% of all residents of Texas have warrants out for their arrest. As the one cop says, why don't they just go door to door and collect $100 from everyone for "protection". I, for one, would rather fix the country and let Mexico alone. Besides, most of the residents of Mexico are already here, driving without licenses and insurance and enjoying their entitlements and benefits in California

Jeeeeeeeeezus man, your lack of insight is overshadowed only by your lack of first hand knowledge. Is it your meaning that when pressed by their bosses for tickets that the cops involved should walk off the job to a picket line or something? Is that what you really want? CDog is right in that todays government is way to intrusive most of us involved in hobbies like this. However anarchy is no way to govern either. Here in ct the po po as there called by one segment of society get $10.00 of every ticket they write for the own department-tell me thats not a revenue scheme

I am another avid seat-belt wearer, and I would like to have the 18 minutes of my life back from reading this thread. If you dont like the law, get it changed.
If you ALWAYS wear your seat belt, you will NEVER get a ticket for NOT wearing it.
If you NEVER drink and drive, you will NEVER get a DUI.
If you NEVER speed, or drag race on the street, or commit a crime, you will NEVER get a ticket or go to jail for said offenses.

There are things called "laws." Deal with them. JMNSHO

Yes, but just think of it....!!! How many lives might be saved if the State were TRULY motivated to bless us with their wisdom and enacted a HELMET LAW for all motorists...lives might be saved, hospital bills reduced, society saved from ourselves!

P.S. Please don't tell my better half that she'll be ticketed right after she leaves the salon .... the officer had better be wearing a helmet too ROFL

A good thought, but helmets are no longer needed as the front and side airbags are more effective. In the works is the next generation of automated bag deflation called the body-bag (tm pofo enterprises) that people of all ages will be required to wear. It is a vest that blows up upon impact in any situation. Walking, bike, motorcycle, car, truck. Even if you are a pedestrian in a crosswalk and hit by a car, the bodibag (tm pofo enterprizes) will completely surround the wearer and protect them from most impacts.

When legislation is enacted to require wearing the bodybagg (tm pofo enterprizes) (expected in spring 2012), seat belts, air bags, child seats, and helmet use will be eliminated.

Rondo, I could agree more...I'm biased towards wearing them because of what I see everyday. It's not like I'm someone trying to tell you or stop you from doing something I have no experience in seeing everyday which effects people just like you. My point, if you don't see what I do...and the day comes that you get into a motor vehicle accident, wouldn't you rather be afraid of a ticket (or PO'd about our revenue generating scheme) and have it on when your time comes??? It's sad it takes laws to protect society...but this is one that works and that is why we have LEO to police the roadways. Sorry if some here have had bad contacts with LEO...not all of us are retards.

It's really not a problem...laws are primarily designed to protect folks from hurting themselves and controlling things that need some controlling.....plus making the gov. a little money to pay for the enforcement.

Now if you obey the rules you'll most likely be injury free and live longer, if you choose not follow the rules..you may pay and you might die.

With that said, I hate rules and some of the enforcers, but I wouldn't be here today if it wasn'tt for good seat belts saving my wife's and my life.

No worries. I think most on this thread agree with using their seat belts, and coming to a complete stop at an intersection.

It's the use of the seat belt laws to generate money for counties and cities, and the directive given to LEOs to have quotas and goals to write these tickets.

Hey, if I get pulled over by a police officer and I do not have my seat belt on when he walks up, write the ticket, I'll pay the fine. But police have something better to do than become modern meter maids waiting behind bushes to spot the the next "law breaker" without a seatbelt on.

If safety is the goal, let's protect children that the parents don't have strapped into their car seat. I'd have no problem with a LEO waiting outside the mall to catch parents that do not have the kids buckled in. After all, the children can not be responsible for themselves, but we can be, and we are, responsible for ourselves.

Many states now require that seat belts be installed on buses. In most cases, its based on the build date of the bus (i.e. in CA they need to be on all new buses after 1999).
