Ever notice some fellow Cobra owners snubbin' ya?

It may be just me, but I don't think so. Do you ever notice how some of the other Cobra guys at a car show try to look down their noses at you once they find out you own a cobra as well?
When I'm at a show I love to check out any other Cobra's and seek out their owners. I crack up at how some of them have to ask "did you build it?" I see us as one big fraternity rather than competitors. Maybe some just get upset that they're not the only Cobra at the show.
I hate to say it, and I'll probably get flamed for it, but there seems to be a consistent attitude from the Factory Five guys. Even the ones who's cars are pretty "rough" looking.
Anyway, not trying to cause a stir, just an observation...

yep, try having a kellison or a west coast, then your really in the crapper

Ron61 06-10-2009 01:54 PM

:)

Actually I think you will find that kind of people at many shows no matter what kind of car you have. I have seen a couple of guys almost get into a fight because one of them was claiming the others 442 wasn't really a 442, but just a clone. The judges finally had to settle it by verifying the vin number.

this is true ron,

lnfletcher 06-10-2009 02:07 PM

Hey, I'm impressed by anyone that builds one of these, rough or not! I like to look at theirs to get ideas!

yeah, I hear ya! It's just dissappointing to see it first hand.

I would say they are definetly in the minority. Most guys I run into are just as eager to share info and stories. Sure I have to break the ice by introducing myself. Make the first effort and I think you'll be surprised at the reaction.

It makes you feel like the red headed step child of the family ...........it is sad but true some just have that better than you attitude.............and i see it here some times.

mrmustang 06-10-2009 02:38 PM

There are those of us who buy/build our cars because we are true enthusiasts and enjoy the flowing, graceful lines of the body along with the heart pounding excitement of driving (racing) the car(s).

There are those who buy(build) these cars for the true status symbol that they believe they are. They do so for the wrong reasons and believe their purchase to by the only right one and everyone else who picked a different car is inferior (in their eyes). Those are the people who are the minority and not the majority......Ignore them and take the high road...........

Snubbed by a FFR owner? Who'da thunk it.:p

jhv48 06-10-2009 03:18 PM

Us FFR owners are just naturally defensive!

Xavier 06-10-2009 03:26 PM

Yeah, same thing here. I get it. I think I am one of the very few Lonestars on the west coast. Its not your imagination. I actually have had my car parked else where because I am not part of the "click".

I don't care though, I am first to strike it up. Who cares, there are pleanty of nice people out there, hardcore Chevy guys wanting to switch cars with my build.

Not everyone with an F5 is like this however, some are the best in the world and have been really nice.

Just take the high road...

cobra25 06-10-2009 03:31 PM

I'll do you one better.
I had my very original 66 GT-350 at a show and all of the other 66 GT-350 owners snubed me.....
I think its just the nature of the beast sometimes..
Now I let you snub me once and I stay away from you and sometimes all of your club events too:cool:

P.S. My best friend ownes a FFR..

RodKnock 06-10-2009 03:34 PM

My neighbor has a FFR and we get along swimmingly. I marvel at the fact that he virtually did everything on his car. It looks fantastic.

I don't think he does, but I hope he doesn't look down upon me because he turns an excellent wrench and I don't.

However, I did have to pull out the wrenches to tighten the nuts on the loose hood prop holddown this past weekend.  :p :o

Was it because of the pro-street look and the 6-71 blower popping through the hood?

That doesn't make sense.

Maricopa 06-10-2009 03:38 PM

Maybe you guys that get snubbed just need to bathe more often.

cobra25 06-10-2009 03:42 PM

I had no idea why the other owners were like that untill it was time to do a lunch time drive around the track(Laguna Seca) and they almost had a fist fight over who was going first.
After seeing all of that, I just went home.

I would guess we all smell the same......like exhaust:LOL:

patrickt 06-10-2009 04:02 PM

I don't know...

... if I had spent a couple of years building every aspect of my FFR, lost a finger or two in the process, maybe the wife & kids even left because I spent all my time in the garage and. admittedly, it looks a "little rough around the edges," it just might bug me that another guy strokes a check to Peter P. or the Kirkham bros. (or for that matter SPF, etc.)....%/

This thread reminds me of a recent incident…I also have a Porsche and belong to a local Porsche club. Yes there are some snobs it is a Porsche club. Anyway at a recent gathering I brought the Cobra and most of the people loved it, loads of questions, compliments and even some pictures. There were a couple of guys who definitely did have an attitude because it was not an original. Finally something came up about the power and I was able to confidently say “it can out run anything on this lot up to 100, even your GT3”. The guy with the GT3 was one of the ones with the attitude...he heard the car when I came in and really did not have much to say. A Cobra really does have a nasty intimidation factor.
