Cobra replica manufacturers in Canada
As everyone knows by now, it is not permitted to import "kit cars" into Canada from the U.S. or anywhere else. Therefore, I thought it might be helpful to post a list of Cobra replica manufacturers operating in Canada. I've done what I could to ensure the list is up to date, but please feel free to add information as necessary.
One important caveat: In no way does this list represent an endorsement regarding any of these companies. You are advised to conduct your own careful due diligence in choosing a Cobra kit supplier. Hey dude...
Thanks for taking the time to build a list for all potential Canadian buyers, absolutely first class! Regards, Mark |
Are SuperFormance no longer allowed to import and sell in Canada ?
|
Are all those companys still in business?
|
You can add Brownlow's Performance in Coquitlam BC
He does not do complete kits He does have fiberglass moulds for GT40, shelby mustang stuff, and I believe cobra coupe. His glass work on the shelby mustang stuff is better than anything I have seen from branda or anywhere else. I cannot tell you how his coupe or gt40 glass is compared to others He's busy so it takes a while to get stuff. He put some carbon fibre in areas of my hood (latch/hinge etc) to add strength |

I've noticed that the website for Pigeon Performance is no longer active. Does anyone know whether Michel is still in business, or whether he's closed up shop?
|
Sundude
Great post , I never realized there were so many companies still building replica cobras in Canada It should also be noted that buyers be very careful about buying a car built out of your home province as I believe it is illegal to ship the cars across provincial boundries unless they have been previously registered in the province of origin , as well the rules for registering these cars can be completely different province to province Just a helpful note for anyone interested |

Just wanted to let you know that Pigeon Performance was burnt down a few weeks back. I do not know the status of the shop, but I heard it was a total loss. Frank 2045 |
Frank, what terrible news that is for Michel and his customers!
Looks like the fire, which started accidentally on Easter weekend, completely destroyed his business and any Cobras that were inside the garage at the time. Total damages of $500,000. At least no one was hurt. Some posters on other forums said that he was fully insured and is planning to re-open later this year. I wish him well. Here are some YouTube links and articles about the carnage. Fire engulfs Ste. Julienne garage By Monique Muise, The Montreal Gazette April 3, 2010 MONTREAL – No one was injured when a major fire engulfed a garage in Ste. Julienne, about 60 kilometres north of Montreal in Lanaudière, early Saturday afternoon. A spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec confirmed the fire started around noon and spread to a nearby home. The blaze was under control by 6 p.m. The garage, Pigeon Performance, is located along Route 125 in Ste. Julienne. », a ajouté M. Ducasse. |
The shop will not be reopen. Michel sold the land a few weeks ago.
|
That's really too bad. Canada loses one of its longest-running Cobra replica manufacturers. Any idea how many cars Michel completed in his 20+ years?
|
I have no idea how many cars Michel made. I do know the Boss Replica Motors Has built 36 cars and kits over the past 12 years. Bret Ward makes them totally by hand, one car at a time, by himself. The glass shell is ONE PIECE and is hand laid.
Boss Replica Motors is building me a 427 Cobra. Completion date is March 1 2012. **) |

Another one for the list, although I'm not sure how active he is, Wolf from Can-Am Cobras, now operating from Harrison Lake area. |
DD Cobra now Karcraft is still in business,I bought a kit from Don and it's being painted at BRM which is still in business as well.

Can you buy a kit from ERA, are they legit in canada/quebec?
|
I don't know whether anyone has successfully imported an ERA kit, since Transport Canada started clamping down a few years ago. ERA's kits tend to be fairly complete, which might be a problem vis-a-vis TC and Canada Customs. Maybe Bob from ERA, or another owner could chime in here.
The subject of importing Cobra kits into Canada has been covered extensively on this forum. You should do a few searches and read up on what you find. Here's one to get you started. Ultimately if you want to import an ERA kit, you're going to have to figure out how to ensure that enough parts are excluded/unattached so that TC/Customs do not consider it an "unassembled motor vehicle" at the time of importation. This is the key. A lot of guys have imported Factory Five kits into Canada, so you might want to connect with them to see what can/cannot be included in your shipment. |
Shelby American and Superformance in Canada
For the record, Nevada Classics, based at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, can export both Shelby CSX-6K and Hi Tech built (Superformance) MK III starter kits into any Canadian province. By following the proper procedures, it is completely legal. We fully adhere to Transport Canada's rules and regulations.

Yes, I added you to my list back in August, when your press release was issued.
