Noise ordinances,loud exhaust.
Beware all! the local gestapoes are on the war paths to rid neighborhoods of excessive exhaust noise. For us here in the NorthEast they are on the bikers backs now trying to pass ordinances. We hot rodders will be in their sights next.Get invovled now, to help the bikers,I'm sure a lot of you have two wheelers.
|
They have an Excessive Noise Law in the town closest to me. Harley's may or not be quite so loud, but their sound can be quite annoying. So.......I wait in my driveway for a Harley to drive by, then follow it into town. I just look straight ahead as I pass the Harley due its being pulled over by the police. Waiting in the driveway.....sometimes, its days and days befoe I can go for a drive.......
Seriously, cruising though town doesn't make much noise. Just not a good idea to show off. |
Dont blame the "gestapoes" for idiots on (mostly) Harleys that have WAY-LOUD pipes on their bikes, AND these bikers make it worse for everyone by revving these overly-loud bikes at every stoplight, stopsign, overpasses, and anywhere else these yahoos choose to annoy others.
|
Many of the Harleys rare running NO MUFFLERS at all, just chrome straight pipes. Much more annoying that a V8 Cobra.
|
They passed a noise law here aimed at MOPEDS. Hey, it's Hawaii, we have a LOT of mopeds, there every where.
Anyway, while it was aimed at mopeds it didn't take long for the realization to set in it also applies to motorcycles and cars! Oops, not what was intended but it's what we ended up with. |

Do you disagree with my statement? Are you calling these yahoos that rev their bikes everywhere "loosers" or "losers"?
|
Ironic that the US and some other countries (most recently Japan) are also considering laws to make hybrids and electric cars noisy so blink people can hear them coming. At least they don't have to worry about our cobras sneaking up on them!

There is this same discussion going on with the Harley people. There are a minority causing problems for the majority. |

Bikes with 'drag pipes' which equals no mufflers, typically run very poorly. So few people do that. But, I do agree, bikers with loud pipes have a responsibility to stay quiet in residential neighborhoods, the same as Cobra owners do. It's easy, don't go past 1/8th throttle or 2,500 rpms, just like in a Cobra. The problem is that most of the Harley guys are poseurs... and they insist on revving the piss out of their bikes at stoplights. And they go full thottle from stoplights and shift at 5,800 rpms. Thus producing the maximum amount of noise. Why? Small penises I guess.... |
It should also be written in a book somewhere that a Cobra must have some exhaust tone. When the legal mopeds exhaust is louder and has more heart than a V8 Cobra that is also just wrong. So it must be written!!!

Next generation will be running Electric powered Harleys & Cobras:LOL: Respect runs both ways. No one likes to be woken up at 6: in the morning or 10: at night because of someone's loud exhaust, horn or Car alarm. Not to say there aren't those who will go out of their way complain about a loud lawnmower at 12:noon. Too bad they can't sit down & work it out over lunch or a duel like in the old days:p

For Christ sake man it's a Cobra.
Give me deaf or give me death.:p |
I was recently down on the Tail of the Dragon-----hundreds/thousands of bikes, mostly H-D, and 99 % of them quiet-----I guess most groups of guys/girls won't ride hundreds of miles together to somewhere with one that is LOUD-----Most of them seemed to have stock pipes, and were in groups of 10-15

I was talking to a trooper friend once and in my 65 fastback, he asked me to start it up, he wanted to hear it run, so I did. now it has a 350hp or less 351-W in it and I have 2 rather large mufflers from a mid 80's LTD on the car, so at idle to about 2500 rpms it it very quite, after 2500 rpms, it starts to make a little noise, not really loud, but you know I'm there...........
he told me at speed I could/would be written up for "modified exhaust", so I told him my car actually came with with louder mufflers from the factory (66 GT-350 clone).....he didn't know what to say. Then I asked if it was legal for the HD riders to ride around town running drag pipes and straight pipes with NO MUFFLERS???? he said no, I asked, "then why don't they ever get ticketed?", he said cause too many cops ride Harleys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! According to him, anything but the factory installed exhaust system on any factory vehicle is ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I told him if I was ever ticketed for loud/modified exhaust, they had better get plenty of ticket books printed, cause I would make enough stink about this in the media that every HD rider would have to go out and buy factory exhaust systems and have them installed on their bikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My race car with a 475hp 331 stroker running an X-pipe and NO mufflers is not as loud as some HD I've been around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David |
you cannot protect my rights by taking away someone else's.
Once the right is lost it is lost to all. |
Laws
"local gestapoes" ...somewhat insulting term for the men and women that protect your butt and your way of life...This is a land of laws and if they are not popular , then change them, but you do not have the right to disobey them..If the" local gestapoes" were what they were in history..you might end up behind barb wire and not just out a few bucks.Get involved in your judicial process not just find ways to get around the laws. That is your real right...involvement..

For those of you bashing loud Harley's......some of you probably think all V-twins are Harley's. Well, they're not. There's loud V-twin Honda Shadow's, Suzuki Intruders, etc., that look like a Harley from a distance or from behind. Let's just bash loud motorcycles. Lets have the police ignore all the loud Viper's, loud muscle cars, loud Mustang GT's and loud '09 Mustang Cobras, loud '10 Camaro's w/Flowmasters, and yes, ignore loud Cobr@'s replicas. Let them get all the loud motorcycles rounded up and taken care of........once they've got all of them, who do you think they'll come after next??? Uhhhhh, let me guess!!
Same with guns! They (the anti's) want to conquer and divide. Someone with a Civil war collection (just an example) may not identify with someone who legally collects Class 3 full auto's, and doesn't get involved "because it doesn't affect me". Look at England and Australia and wake up! Yes, my Harley is loud, but they're not straight pipes. That adversely affects performance except WOT. And, I don't rev it at red lights. That's building unnecessary heat with no air flow across the air cooled engine when you are sitting still. I don't flaunt it with my neighbors, I try to idle out of the 'hood. To me, we all need to stick together, whether on 2 wheels or 4. There shouldn't be any Chevy vs. Ford or Harley vs. Honda, or THEY will win. If we, as gearhead enthusiasts, 2 cyl, 4 cyl, or 8 cyl, don't stick together, we will all lose in the end. |
