Trailer brake controller
I need to buy a new controller for my trailer brakes. Any input on brand, model, functionality, etc. will be appreciated. Thanks

Tekonsha is the only brand I will use any more. Easy to install, easy to adjust, works every time...
I threw away at least 2 Kelsey brake controllers- they were the biggest POS I have ever tried to adjust and seemed to only work when they were in the right mood.

I bought the Tekonsha P3 after looking around a lot. There was another version that I had thought about, it required tapping into the hydraulic brake lines. I decided that the electronic plug and play would be adequate for what I was doing.

On my 1995 F-150 I had a BrakeMateMT....has a setting for empty and one for loaded. Simple, inexpensive unit and worked like a charm. I could set it either way and have the brakes lock up on the trailer when I wanted..........
My 05 Super Duty has the built-in controller and it doesn't work 1/2 as good as the after market BrakeMate unit.......Thinking about putting the old BrakeMate unit in and by-passing the factory controller...........

There are two types of brake controllers; Proportional and Time Delayed.
I prefer Proportional. Here"s the one I bought. http://www.hayesbc.com/energizer3.html
Works fine. Got it on fleabay for about 50 bucks.

Tekonsha Prodigy most trucks are now plug ins,no splicing wires anymore. hardest part was trying to where to mount it.

Have Prodigy on both chev. duramax pickups and on motorhome. Can adjust so trailer brakes come on first and how much. Can adjust down to come on just right when using the jake brake on motor home. Brake lights come on when jake comes on. Can come off steep hills without use of brakes on motorhome and not heat up trailer brakes on low setting. No problems so far, used on one pickup now for 6 years, one pickup 2 years, and bus for 3 years.

I have a Tekonsha Prodigy. The Combined weight was 16,888 truck and 5th wheel. Very adjustable, plug and play.
