This is a video of a little over 1 lap at SAAC 38 Friday, thought those of you who could not attend or did not participate in the track drive might appreciate seeing the track. Yes, I am afraid of the NASCAR wall and it shows.

Hey Bruce thanks for the ride. It sure seems to be running sweet. Tell your stablemate I said Hi.
Cheers.

rodneym 07-06-2013 10:57 PM

Very Cool!
Thanks for posting. Must have been hotter yesterday than today.
Awesome.

Jamo 07-06-2013 11:34 PM

That was cool, Bruce. You're not the only one who doesn't like the "wall"...I've run there twice and got spooked both times. Not a good place to get a dose of vertigo.

Your car sounds like it still has a lot of power left in it. What was your top speed on the fastest part of the track?

The speedo was showing 190 in 5th when I chicken lifted for 1 and right at 150 on the infield as I went under the bridge, I know the NASCAR boys are going over two hundred going into 1 but then they aren't starting from pit lane either.

Tom Kirkham 07-07-2013 02:41 PM

Bruce, thanks for all the help at the track. I also had a case of the chicken lifts...

We ran the Sports Car configuration. Here is a link to the track map. Track Maps - Auto Club Speedway

190MPH! Wow.

That's almost as much fun as my ride yesterday. I'm fairly sure that I went over the freeway speed limit.

Thanks for posting the video.

Wow 190. In other threads I have heard replica owners say that the handling gets scary around 150.

Speed

I would never attempt that in a Cobra, that was my GT. Morris the rear end ratio is 3.31 (stock) and I was way up in 5th. The car has a big front splitter, side skirts, a GT1 rear wing so it is very stable and easy to drive at speed.
Driving a Cobra that fast is for guys like Dick Smith, I am not brave enough
not to mention I am 72 years old too.

Bruce

You must of had a great time......and it's Exciting when you come off the track.....

And share the experience with others. I've watched the video many times and it's great.

Thanks for sharing.

Clois Harlan 07-08-2013 06:58 AM

Impressive. I first thought the track looked like Texas World in College Station TX. I guess the track is about 3 + miles long?

Best of all was cooling off the wife with the your fan.

I felt I was trying your patience, I apologize.
For what it worth I used the high side but Jenny could not get out of own way at 140 mph . You far bested me.
Nice to finally meet you.

Thank You

Sorry Richard, I was frustrated because my intercooler radiator spraying system pump went out and the replacement did not work properly. I did not mean to give that impression but apparently did because I could not run as much as I wanted to and got short with you. PS I liked your car, healthy engine!

The best that I could muster going into turn one was 125mph. My KR has a tune that may be leaner than the stock KR. The rear gears are 3.73 with small dia. nittos. The car was strong in the corners and pulled good in the short back straights but didn't seem to have the legs on the front bank.

Hot Rod did a write up of the event with lots of pics.

Also see this video from the local Channel 7 news. My Kirkham got a few seconds of play time at the very end of the video.
