				 Cobra road course track times
For those that track your cobras at the various road courses throughout the country what are the average lap times? Also, what was the best lap time for a cobra at that particular track? Finally, what manufacturer/kit was used to make these lap times?
 E.g

 Elkhart lake
 2m27 Kirkham Nascar engine, driver
 2m45 FFR

 Watkins Glen
 2:18.404 Superformance, Jim

So far my best time at Watkins Glen with my Superformance 289 FIA is 2:18.404. Planning on lowering that time this year. I am not sure what the best time in a cobra is there, although I would gather that it is faster than I am going right now.

Don't sell yourself short Jim, anybody that can knock 4-sec. a lap off in one season, has the driver gene And now with a touch more HP (Webers) that can't hurt either. Hey, I'm here for you, we'll talk before your first race. |

Unfortunately true it seems that 99% of all Cobra owner rather drive to cars and coffee you realize that when you want to sell a track/race cobra

Did a 1:30 with my FFR Cobra at Willow Springs Raceway same time in my Daytona but I should go faster |

I think that MesaMaui's comment of 99% is about right but it's not just Cobra owners. I've listened to Vette and Porsche owners that are the same. They don't want to hurt their pretty car, hide when it rains and spend more time waxing than driving. Not sure who they're saving it for.
I wish it wasn't so. They don't know what they're missing.

Why don't you stay with your asking for times comment and wait for responses rather than trash the non racers. By racers I take it you mean Real wheel to wheel racing right? not time trials and controlled events. BTW autocross is NOT a controlled event. It's- take your car and your abilities to the limit. Try that, it's a blast

Not a Cobra, but my SPF GT40 turns 1:24's at Portland International Raceway. Roush 427SR, 505hp. Could do better with adjustable shocks and heavier springs. Too much body roll on stock springs/shocks. Last edited by SwiftDB4; 04-21-2019 at 09:36 AM..

Killarney, South Africa (Cape Town. 2004)
1:32 with a 2200 lb, 302cui, 290 hp/400 lbft local (LDS) replica on old street tires.

I matched the lap times of all the local street Porsche, except Peter G's 1:30 who is a pro. I also almost won against John A in his decade-long winning street legal 289.

My only race event. 290 hp was just enough power. It looked like I was cruising.

Track time at Willow Springs (non competitive) is the most fun I have had in the Cobra. I do a lot of cruises through the canyons and go to cars and coffees too. Cruising with friends and solo for a little solitude. The track is definitely hard on the car and it takes a toll on the paint. Not for the trailer queens or pretty show cars. But I dont have the need to play robby racer on the streets in traffic anymore. Go as fast as you want on the track. I'm still at the beginner level and not too worried about times.
 John

 Hi,
I run at Lime Rock on the inside track at lease three times a year and also run in the NYBMW Club twice a year. It has given me a true insight to how these cars handle when properly set up. Not the fastest but definitely beating some cars that you would not think of for sure. Taking your Cobra to the track gives you a true advantage of dialing it in as a performance car.
