Default Static Cling Racing Numbers

Just getting ready for my first race this year on June 1 and was wondering if anyone has used Enzo's static cling meatballs? If so do they stay on your car as advertised? Are they re-useable?

In short I like the idea but I am a little concerned about the meatballs staying on the car at 140 mph or so. I also drive my car around town and don't want to attract any special attention from our boys in blue so I want to remove them after each race. I would appreciate anyones' input.

Thanks,

Clois Harlan

Clois,

I purchase mine from Bob Shaw at Operations Plus out here in CA. They've worked very well on my car. It's very important that you clean and wax (no anti-static polishes or waxes, or roundels won't stick) the areas where the stickers will be applied. Also, you have to get virtually all of the air bubbles out with a squeege or a small hard rubber roller, or the stickers will lift at speed. They do come off, but the more you take them off and reinstall them, the shorter the amount of time they will last. If you're very careful with the installation, they should work out fine for you.

TT

Ops Plus website:

http://www.cobracountry.com/opsplus/home.html

Bob Shaw is great and easy to work with. He'll get you the decals PDQ.

If you follow the directions correctly, they will look permanent and stay on as long as you wish and not come off at high speeds....and they are reusable.

Default Thanks

Thanks Tom and John,

I went down to one of our local graphic's company's and picked up my trailer numbers and a few extra signage and asked them about their Static Cling meatballs and they told me they didn't think they would stay on at high speeds or rain but 3-M was making a new and better product now. They cost was considerably higher than Enzo's

I believe I will order mine from Tom Shaw or Enzo.

Thanks again,
Clois Harlan

I agree with John and Tom...

I got my meatballs from Bob a few years ago, and they're great. I take'em off and on regularly, and have had no issue with them flying off at high speed (135-140MPH) - no sign of them even beginning to peal off at high speed.

Additionally, I use them with two different cars! And they still work and look great.

I believe that the key is how one stores them when not in use (ie: stuck on a car). I just stick'em to the side of the refrig in the garage when not in use. Works great!

Anyway, just another recommendation for OpsPlus!

Have Fun,
Randy R...

Default When Meatballs Fly !!!

I’ve had no problems as long as the surface is very clean and you put them on the car at least 48hrs before you plan and driving at high speed. I know this from experience… For the last event I attended, I put my meatballs on my car when it was “somewhat” dusty about 20hrs prior to running. My first lap at 140mph the one on the bonnet flew-off (scared the crap out of me by the way) and the next lap the one on the boot launched (that one made me laugh). Needless to say I’m on my seconded set of m-balls and will follow the directions better.

It’s also a good idea to let the car sit in the sun after you apply them.

Raced a 92 Vette before the Cobra--so I've got about a decade's worth of experience with static cling...

Assolutely clean and wax the area. Also, while more difficult to work with--I get the thinnest stuff I can find so it lays down as flat as possible. Take your time and use water to put them on and get every bubble out--smooth the edges down with finger. Have a nice flat surface to put them on when you're not using them--after you clean them thoroughly. I use some of my kids' school project boards and just make a sandwich with them to prevent any harm. Be careful when it's warm on the sun is shining bright when you put them on--do not pull or you will stretch them out--very noticeable on meatballs.

I've used them in dusty autocrosses and high speed track work--Vette went up to 150 mph with no problems despite the seam and curve of the body--much worse than the Cobra.

They have fallen off of my car twice now. However, I am using "Zaino Brothers" polish and it is anti-static. So much so, that in three weeks with no car cover in the garage, I don't have so much as a speck of dust on the car.

Perfect advertisement for Zaino...

Cobra getting up to speed and a bunch of decals come flying off. Background speaker: "Zaino--Nothing Sticks!"

Now look what you made me do.

I told the officer that I was just giving him Texas Peace sign but he wasn't amused.
