Question Hot Lap timing systems

I am considering the purchase of a Hot Lap timing system as found at Longacre Racing

http://www.longacreracing.com/catalo...d=271&catid=10

Has anyone used one of these or heard anything about them? I like the idea of seeing my lap times while I am running. I know I need a transponder to be scored but I am not competing at this time.

Thanks

Jim
Had one several years ago wasn't from Longacres was a fun toy used it in circle track, units had to be 40-50 ft. apart and didn't work well on turns. Some of the tracks didn't like you seting up. The big thing was the negative feed back from the other teams.
Good luck Ken

I've been using one for a few years in my racecar. I have the "long range" light mounted on a camera tripod.

Works great as long as some shmuck doesn't decide to bring his & set it up a hundred feet saway from yours.

Whenevre multiple ones are set up on the front straight at the track, we either try and just leave one on all day.......
or if one is much higher than another, suppose like one for a sedan & one for a formula car. WE turn them both on but have the sitting right next to each other.

They do make an excellent tool. Before I used them I used to just velcro a stopwatch (with front mounted buttons) to the center of my steering wheel.

Thumbs up Thanks for the feedback

I have yet to hear anything negative about the Hot Lap system. Alain, I was thinking about the problem you mentioned with multiple sending units. I am thinking of mentioning it at the end of the Drivers' Meeting once all the official stuff is done. I was also trying to decide where to put the sender. Seems to me that about the middle of the front straight would be best. You are done with the exit of the last turn and have a few seconds before turn 1.

Junket, I am hoping the tracks won't have a problem with me setting it up. We'll see.

Thanks again.

I've never heard of any track having a problem with you setting up a timing light.

Uusually the middle of the front straight, right across from pit road, or by the strater stand are the places we use.

Oh, make sure and paint or permanently mark your name on the thing so it can get back to you the day you leave the track without it,,,,,,,as it seems to happend to everyone at least once.

i use that system. it works very well. i just do occasionally have the problem with having multiple transmitters on front straights. just make sure no one else is set up.

also, one other thing. dont make a big deal about using it. you dont want people to think their "drivers education" events are in actuality "speed contests and/or timed events".
