Bill Karns and I will be attending this Zippo Classic. We went last year and had a ball.
Anybody else from CC going? We usually move around to different vantage points but our favorite spot is camping out by the bus stop. Swing by and say hello (Blue 2000 Expedition). |
Man, what a great entry list! You guys are lucky to have such a great track nearby. Wish I could make it--one of these years...
Bob |
Tim,
I plan on going up Friday night or Saturday morning. I need to get my parts ordered for the Stang before I go though. I am staying with Steve Sunshine at the Radisson. I just spoke to Bill K. and gave him my cell phone number. He told me where you're staying. Look for me wearing a white or yellow COMPETITION LIFE t-shirt. |
He's there
Just got a phone call from JM from the pits at the Glen. I could barely here what he was saying because he was druling over the cars and some of his words were garbled. I would say he was impressed and was having a good time.

Did'ja ever have a weekend where you felt you were on Viagra, but never took the stuff????
I sported a Woody for 2 days continuous at the SVRA Zippo Races at the Glen. Some seious Iron (and aluminum!) were to be seen. Unbelievable weather, attended the SVRA "Soiree" at the track clubhouse Saturday night, drinking good clean booze for free and rubbing elboes with Vic Edelbrock, Bill Murray, JJ Rodman and all the folks that attended. I spent a good deal of time in the pits talking to folks. Steve S. and I spent nearly an hour with JJ Rodman who owns CSX2472, an original Dragon Snake and one of the nicest guys on the planet. Saw some serious Cobra racers form the Shelby Museum, CSX3032, CSX24?? (The Dan Gerber car), a GT40 (white, green wheels...ferget the ##). Saw the Penske 67 Sunoco Camaro runs until he had mechanical problems. Sunoco Lola and Lister..... Tons of Jag Type C's. Cobra Automotive was flying the GT350 banner with 6 to 8 cars in Group 6. Group 6 had a field of about 55 cars, took up the entire rear straight of the Glen...amazing thunder in this big bore group. Bill Murray won the Group 6 race in CSX3032. He battled with Dale Phelon in his Camaro and the white vette of Dick Mooney (I think). One of two Maserati 312 street cars owned by Lance (ferget last name...real nice guy). NO CHEETERS BRUCE!!!!!!!!! I was there with Steve Sunshine (aka CSX4027) and ran ino the following folks from Club Cobra... Danny Ostrower (aka Super Snake) blew head gasket on Porsche 968) Steve Smith (aka fia#09) Peter Baselice (lurker and Club Cranky member & son Patrick) Russ (lurker who found me because I said I would wear a yellow COMP. LIFE T Shirt!) Bill Karns (aka wgk) Tim Lewis (aka mustang man) Of Course, we saw the Competition Life Sponsored Group 10 car of Lauren Fix in her John Player Special Trans Am Mustang which was severly trashed in an accident in Turn #6 (laces of boot) when she went thru Speedy Dry. Her crew and husband Paul had the car repaired in time for group 10 run on Sat. PM. But the car was retired Sunday AM with a bad connecting rod. Great time, met lots of great people and saw lots of killer racing (hung out at the Inner Loop where the pros were going 3 wide into the loop!) |
So where's the feekin pictures???
Roscoe |
"Feekin Pictures??????"
Roscoe,
.....I don't know nuthin 'bout FEEKIN pictures. If yer asking about FREEKIN pictures...well, I didn't take any. I was too busy. The photographic illerates; Steve Sunshine and Bill Karns took maybe one or two. Its our way of saying.... "Git yer ass to the Glen or suffer the lack of pictures!!!" Kabische? |
No camera
$15,000 Mustang
$50,0000 + Cobra $30,000 Expidition tow truck $5,000 Trailer $5,000 in spare parts But no $200.00 Camera Is it too much to ask for a couple of lousy pictures for your friends that could not attend? |
Not getting any pictures for Cranky........PRICELESS!!!!!!!!

427 Victory
It was an incredible time. Bill Murray's CSX 3032 didn't miss a beat. He had a hi-compression very tweaked 427 along with side protection bars installed and a forward facing roll bar ala 289 along with the original set-up. Believe it or not he did not even run bronze bushings in the rear suspension. The were a Delron like but better material. I timed him at better that 2.09. Now that's fast in a Cobra or any car for that matter. Hail to the King!!

McFEz is Quick
A 2:09 in a race prepped Cobra huh? Ol DD (Don Durner) turned a 2:12 in his ERA last July. Not bad for an Mcamatuer.
Hi Steve!;) McHank FFR 1776-II |
Less' see now. The winning car in group 6, including multiple Corvette small blocks and big blocks, dozens of small block GT-350's, Jag XKE's including lightweights, and numerous Camaro and Mustang T/A cars was what... well do these old eyes deceive me? Could it be true? CSX3032, a BIG BLOCK CAR!!!
What tire was he running? Slicks or the Hoosier TD', or the treaded Bluestreaks? Well, at the Glen, HP rules. McFEz Thanks for remembering Hank. |
Great win
Let's all give a cheer for the A/P 427 Cobra that kicked the crap out of those B/P 289 Mustangs and 327 Vettes
Nice job. |
CSX 3032
The car was runnung Hoosiers and no rear sway bar.
Uh Oh!!! I think I miss my car:CRY:    |
UNFAIR FIGHT?
So now it's A/P vs B/P, implying the higher class has an advantage? But when its BB vs sb, that never comes up.
Ok, this is vintage racing, where the B/P cars are SUPPOSED to be running 289's. Wanna bet how big some of them really are? It's not cheating, because that would imply someone actually checks. But as you all know, at the Glen HP rules. At LRP, the 3.8/4.2L 6cyl Donavan Jag rules, and the GT350s all run at the front, well in front of the sb cobras too. So roll your eyes all you want, but .. A 427 COMP COBRA KICKED BUTT!! McFEz |
McFez,
Don't know if this is true or not but heard the 427 motor was an all aluminum Shelby creation. Still he did prove that the BB's can beat up on the little guys on certain tracks. Still look forward to trying to catch you at the Glen. At least you put your BB on the track. Crank:D |
Searching....searching......
I'm scrounging around for pics and will add links as I find them....

Great Photos
Giovanni,
Great shots! Especially liked the pit photos. BTW, where you looking for 4 legged mammals when shooting the off track greenery? Enrico FFR 1776-II |
