Yes it goes to show the Cobra was awesome in its day, but if you want to get technical and talk about speed around race tracks, similar type cars from Lotus and Ginetta UK with small engines (1.5) regularly beat Gt40's etc on certain tracks, in the late sixties and seventies.

Then as Cobras vary so much in chassis design, mine being a simple ladder platform as per original, its quite limited in torsional rigidity, whereas a car built by I imagine JBL etc will handle very well, being a stiff design.

I recall watching some vintage car races and seeing the little Austin Mini's kicking butt and takin' names against some potent competitors. It is just crazy to see them coming DEEP into a corner, tapping the brakes, passing someone and coming out ahead when the "smoke" has cleared! YEAH!

A lot of it comes down to the track layout and having a "good day".

Can you put an R34's AWD suspention under a replica Cobra?
That would be awsome, an AWD Cobra. It would have to still retain the V8 of course.

The user OZVENOM on this forum is using the Skyline running gear with a turbo-ed Lexus V8. I spoke with him about it, and what a wicked setup!

I don't like ricers, expecially after reading FLYBOYS, but this one sure looks wicked.

Technically, the way the term is used, a ricer is a low-mid market (import) car with lots of cosmetic aftermarket parts. A Honda Civic with a 4 foot alum. wing, undercar lights and a 4 inch exhaust tip is a "ricer".

The Skyline is a factory built high performance car from Japan. To call it a "ricer" is really not accurate. It's really a Japanese 911 turbo and maybe $70,000 when they bring it here.

Thats high performance with high style, a luxury car actually. Power windows, leather seats, cup holder, the whole nine yards. AND fast. Reminds me of Jag-u-R XJS. Cruising at 100 mph and reching down to adjust the air conditioning or select a different "Mozart" track on the CD.

There are a few Skylines down here and at least 2 R34's. One of them is a Nismo-modified beast known locally as "Godzilla". The closest thing we have to a racetrack here is an old USAF base from WW2. It left behind an extensive complex of 60' wide, super flat concrete roads that are quite useable for (very) short tracking, slaloms and drag racing. The drags are the only semi organized thing right now and even that's a stretch with atrocious security and safety issues that keep most of the more serious people away. I am currently working behnd the scenes with others to get something organized and running. There is lots of speculation about the inevitable showdown between Godzilla and my Cobra. His fastest recorded time in the 1/4 is in the very low 13's so I know I can dust him in a straight line. The problem too, is that these cars are always breaking and spend far more time being worked on than being driven. I look forward to meeting him on the track as the concrete has a weathered, super grippy texture to the surface that lets a car like the Cobra launch hard and stick to the track in turns in a way that is impossible on asphalt. Oversteer can be induced with controlled, predictable results and I truly believe that the 4wd advantage will be minimized. Bottom line; THIS cobra (there are so many variables with Cobras) is lighter and faster than THAT Skyline and I am confident that I can take him on THIS track under THESE conditions.

Ricer . . . Japanese . . . not accurate?? Guess such rational makes it easier to swallow. Yes, it's a performer. Using your rational, I will now look at the Skyline as a factory built Japenese "low-mid market (import) car with lots of cosmetic aftermarket parts" with a big price.:JEKYLHYDE

Guess it's hard for me to get the WWII stuff the Japanese did out of my head and the restrictions the Japanese have on importing our cars. I just finished reading FLYBOYS, so I don't look too kindly on anything Japanese at the moment.:mad:

I'm not rationalizing just pointing out that the term "ricer" is not used on "any japanese car" -by those who use this slang.

It would be like calling any non- jap bike a "chopper".

Kind of like the term "import". For some reason in MY mind that term doesn't seem to fit for European market cars. BMW, Merdedes, Jaguar, Cobra etc. Though, these to are clearly imports or originated as "imports".

The term "Imports" strike me as "asian" cars. Japanese, Korea, etc.

"Ricer" strikes me as a term that signifies Japanese cars with neon lights, wings and fart can mufflers. It's use is tricky as it can just as easily be used in a derogatory fashion, or as simply stating a "fact". I've seen some very impressive "ricers", but far more in the category of, "WHAT were they thinking"! The "fact" that your Honda is made in the USA does not phase me in the least, it IS and shall remain a "rice car".

All though your Ford maybe made in Mexico, it IS an all american car in my book.

The problem is this: Where do the boys "down under" fit into all this? A strange lot they are........:LOL:

Thank you, but it's old bias, just newly kindled. And a news flash: Japanese bikes have been chopped! Harley guys don't look on them with much approval, though.:LOL:

A chopped Japanese bike leaves me cold, an insult to an American tradition. Embarassing at best! A "rice rocket" can be interesting how ever!

Wouldn't a Buell look kinda funny as a chopper? Kinda defeats their "purpose" in life, Go fast, stop quick, look mean!

I've seen some English bikes done up in the Chopper fashion, there OK, but certainly "miss the mark".

German bikes? Can you imagine a chopped BMW? The horror!
