McLeod "Street Twin"
Any one using a McLeod Street Twin clutch?
I have a 427 w/4 speed I will be using it for street and strip Is it street friendly Just looking for some feedback before I buy the wrong clutch Thanks, Glen B. |
I had two.One in my GTO and the other in my Cobra.The neat thing about them is they can be adjust for your horsepower level.So if you're putting 500HP to the flywheel,they can adjust out some of the "grab" and the pedal will be easier than if you were putting 900 to the 'wheel.

How was it for the street? What kind of HP did you have and did you adjust it or did an installer do it. How difficult was it. This would be the first time with a clutch pack. I have been looking for some tech sheets, but can't find anything. Glen B. |
Myself and two other guys here in the Dallas area have this setup.All three of us have a little over 600 hp.One has a 427w,2 have 418w.
The 427w is in a BDR.While having it setup on the dyno,they found a single disc couldn't hold it.He switched to the street twin,problem solved. All three of us put 99% of the miles on on the street. I have never had a problem with it in over 2 years.Neither have the other two guys in the same length of time. I would do it.:) |
Glen- i loved it for the street.I was making about 520 at the crank.And i was fortunate enough to live with-in driving distance of MCleod when i was building the car,so George at Mcleod did the adjustments.
Installing it is childs play-just like any other clutch only different.:JEKYLHYDE |

I am going to use the stock bellhousing. Did you upgrade to a heaver bellhousing or stock and what type of throwout bearing did you use? Glen B. |
I used the stock bell as well.The Lakewood pile o crap hung down too far.I used McLeods Hydraulic T-O.The Street twin is guarranteed to 14,000 rpm.So i figured 6800 was a safe bet with a stock bell.

I'm not sure I can justifiy the cost of a hydraulic thowout bearing now! Maybe later. The price of the clutch kit is all over the board. So far it's Summit or LS1 Speed Inc. Are you happy with the T/O? Do you think it's a big benefit? The adjustments George made, were they based on your HP or just a normal clutch adjustment? Glen B. |
The adjustments were made based on the HP i was running.As far as the HTO goes,i have had no issues.

The "Street Twin" is a package.
Flywheel, clutch pack, presser plate and throw out bearing. Shop around!!!!! Quotes I got are from $1323.00 plus shipping down to $919.00 free shipping. I don't think I will get it any lower. Unless someone reading this want's to give me a quote. Glen B. |
I have new mcleod to bearing kit I am not using.
Glen, I have two McLeod #14005-30 that I bought two months ago brand new in the box. I did'nt use it because I decided to use the custom one Kirkham makes. It comes in the box with the Wildwood master cyl with direct or remote mounting options. Let me know if you are interested. Mike Murphy

That's what bothers me a bit. Mcleod gives me a number of 64304-00-03
with the information of a Ford 1967 427 SO / Top loader 1 1/16" input - 10 spline. Trying to get quotes and some people come back with diff. Mcleod part numbers. Murphy what is a #14005-30 fit? |
Stock bell housing and legs
CobraBill Any part can break on a car no matter how strong or how many rpms it is good for. These problems are called DEFECTS. How much are your legs worth? I guest not worth $350.00. As far as the shield and backing plate hanging down, alot of guys cut them at the bottom even with the bolt holes. I have seen a few clutches blown out in 1/4 mile racing, and it is amazing how much damage and how far a clutch piece and part of a flywheel travel. I saw guy lost his lower leg, cut the calf area in half at E-town about 24 years ago, I never forgot the bleeding and screaming that was going on. I have a Lakewood in every one of my toys. Total 4,Legs 2, Walking and running PRICELESS. %/ :) Rick Lake

Glen, I have to agree with Rick on the scattershield. Mine is cut on the bottom so it does not hang down.
I just called McLeod (tech line 714-630-2764) to confirm that the 14005-30 is the kit with a slip on (not bolt on) T.O. bearing and hyd. cyl. that fits Tremec trans (must have the Ford imput shaft) or any top-loader trans (except the somewhat rare race version 1 3/8" imput shaft one). The bearing slips on and will work if you have a minimum of 3" from the transmission face side of the scattershield to the highest tip of the spring fingers on your pressure plate. If the distance is less than 3" mine will not work. I suggest calling McLeod and describe your setup. Let me know and I can send you a picture. Mike Murphy |
