has anyone put a 427 Fe engine in ther cobra if so how did you get the measurements to know where to mount the motor mounts on the frame rails.

if the rear is already mounted, you will kinda have to work from the back front.

mock up a block and your trans to be sure you have enough room for a driveshaft....it'll be quite short. have the mounts on the engine

things to consider...

oil pan to ground clearance,
carb and aircleaner to hood clearance, watch out for this one...
pinion angle

I have a FE in my A&C and follow Joes manual.... Take a measurement from the cross member to the center between cylinders #2&3's exhaust port on the Pass side. The distance is 22.5 inchs so your headers and side pipes will fit.

The 22 1/2" is correct but I would put the headers that you will use on the FE and install the mounts on the block and mock it up that way. I used the headers from AC and they are formed to fit around the foot box. I had to have the passenger side fixed so that it would not hit the foot box.
