Default Seat belt mounting options

Looking at picking up the 67 Roadster.
I was able to get an electronic copy of the build manual.

I was wanting to run a 4 pt. harness. I see in the manual where you can drill a hole at the bottom far rear of the cockpit to mount lap belts.
What about running the shoulder belts?
Just get one of those brackets and anchor them to the rollbar?
Or actually cut slots into the rear firewall and anchor them to part of the chassis?

Any pics you all could post up would be appreciated.

I had saddle leather mounts made for the shoulder straps. They wrap around the roll bars.

They bolt on with 3/8 bolts and acorn nuts...look great.

No, I do not have pictures.

Default Seat belts

I have a A&C and the easy way is to get 4 clevis's 1/2" thread and drill a hole with a big fender washer and for the shoulder harness put a 1/2 bolt thru the upper shelf in the trunk with either a fender washer or I used a 4x4 peice of steel, I welded brackets to the frame instead of fender washers

Jon

I was thinking of doing something relatively similar.

I would strongly suggest all belt mounting points be attached to the frame. Even if you have to weld tabs.

I have seen a lot of seat belts in Cobras attached to fiberglass. The belts will not hold in a wreck. IMHO

Solid points mentioning anchoring the belts to parts of the frame.
Luckily, I work in a sheetmetal fab shop and have access to make and fabricate what I need.

Now than, let me ask this.
What would be a good brand of 4 pt. seat belts to buy?
And do most belts come with some kind of an anchoring stitched into them?

The Cobra will see 99.5% of it`s life on the street so, I dont need a radical seat belt mounting system.

Default Seatbelts

Not to be combative on a safety issue
but several yrs ago I had a bad accident in a cobra... Seat belts were bolted thur fiberglass and held... No issue. Big problem which caused injury was the side pipe coming loose from the frame mount and almost coming thru the body. My pipes now have welded tabs on the frame and muffler and bolted together!

Any shoulder harness mount points should be at shoulder level or higher.
Mine are bolted to frame about shoulder level but rollbar mounting would be safer, assuming the bar is solidly frame mounted itself.

Not to be combative on a safety issue but you are one lucky SOB. You should get the belts mounted properly. Really.....fiberglass?
