Default Windshield glass

I had the unfortunate mishap of breaking the glass in the A&C cobra replica I’m building while installing some sun visors. I would love to be able to run up and get one from factory five instead of having one shipped from Antique & Collectibles or International Wholesale in Nebraska which is where they get them. Has anyone used the factory five glass in their A&C windshield frame?

Thanks very much for any help you can share!!!

I think most of these Cobra replicas all use parts from International Wholesale.
If you go to the factory five forums (www.ffcars.com) and search around, there`s a few posts where people have replaced their glass with (I think) lexan.

I think there might be a few posts on plastic windshields in the Backdraft forum on this site.

I’m one that is using MR10 Lexan.

I have an earlier BDR with the standard aluminum windshield frame… and it is my understanding that BDR windshields are an “off size”. I waited for BDR to get some windshields in and… it never happened. They STILL don’t have any… in fact… they have removed “replacement windshield glass” from their website… now they want to sell you an entire chrome over brass windshield frame AND glass.

I also looked at the Shell Valley PolyGlass… but their measurements didn’t match… and by the time I added the additional $200 “custom cut” fee… their product was approaching the cost of an entire windshield assembly.

The MR10 works very well and is cost effective IF you don’t have to buy an entire sheet. James Yale w/ Radical Roadsters in Tomball, TX cut mine and sold it to me at a reasonable price. The installation was a snap… and it performs just like glass… except I wouldn’t want to use the wipers on it… and I clean it with warm water and a microfiber towel… nothing else.

I am going to be taking my engine to Fitzgerald Brothers in Beacon Falls, CT on Friday the 26th. If you could get it delivered to Bloomfield, NY by Thursday of next week i could put it in the truck and bring it along, that would save you some of the shipping. I plan on being at Beacon Falls around noon. If you went this route you would need to get a guarantee from A&C that it would be delivered by Thursday, or otherwise it would end up being more expensive and time consuming for you.

If you call them, get an estimate of when it would be delivered and the size of the container. Then PM me and I will let you know if that will work.

Jim
