Default Hood latch install question on A&C

Gents
I have drilled the 2 holes in the fiberglass hood and now have a question regarding the hood latches. I noticed the these latches have two cast metal notches that stick down from the handles into the fiberglass. My guess is that these notches keep it from spinning if turned to hard. My issue is that if I notch the fiber glass out for the tabs and then drill the two 1/8 holes to mount the latch it could be weaker at the fiberglass where the screws go into. So should I grind these tabs off and just use the screws instead. Here are a few shots of the latches and what I’m talking about. Your input will be helpful. Thanks

Here is one of the hole that I drilled in the hood. Anyone used these type on there ACs with a fiber glass hood?

You`re on the right track.
I ground those little "ears" off when I installed mine.
No issues what so ever since installation.

I suspect they intended for you to use the red gasket as a template, and cut the whole to match. I cannot say for sure that is correct. I would under cut it, unless I needed all the clearance.

I can say on my car no force would go to the base plate unless the bearing in it froze up.

PS
Those tabs may be designed to stop you from over tightening and cracking the glass. I assume there is a plate (that is not shown in the picture) that goes under the hood. That plate likely will hit the tabs and prevent crushing the glass too far. That would also let you tighten the bolts more, so they do not come loose.

There is no other plate that sandwiches the fiberglass. As per the instructions you must drill (2)3/4in hole in the hood and then screw the latches to the fiberglass using #8 screws to the fiberglass. The fiberglass is pretty thick on the hood that A&C provides. Im going to remove the tabs as H-Rod has said. I’ll show some pictures after install.

I’m trying to post some pictures of the hood hood/latch install and it’s not letting me post any pictures now. Anyone having the same issues?

I notched the holes from the tabs to where the screws mount with a die grinder. It was easy and it didn't make anything weak.
