Tires picking up rocks

Has anybody ever tried to put anything like a rubber mat or pad up inside the fenders to absorb the impact of a rock or road debris getting picked up by the tires and slung into the fiberglass body. I know the body is thick but sometimes if you get the tires hot you can really hear stuff slamming under there. It just makes me worry one of these days its going crack the paint on the top side.

I used a 3M poduct I got from my autobody/paint supplier. (Sorry I do not have the reciept to give you the product name/number) It came in a spray can, and put a rubbery absorbent black coating on my fender wells. Seems to work well. when a stone gets tossed up, it goes "thud" rather that than "crack". I have only had it on one summer, time will tell how well it works.

I recall a thread about this subject in another part of the forum, worth a search.

I just put 2 test pieces of neoprene (5/16) on my SPF. The material is that used by Top of the Hill. I put one piece on according to instructions. The second piece I applied 3M adhesive on the fender first and then applied the neoprene. I'll let you know on 6-15-07 how they look.

If it's still tight I will allow the guys at Top of the Hill to over-charge me for the kit.

Yes this is a typical step with original Cobras because rocks hitting aluminum make for some interesting dings. Some thin rubberized foam padding applied to the inside of the wheel well is the way to go.
