Fuel mileage
I checked my mileage on the trip to Johns today.
I did 270 miles total and used 13 gallons of fuel. So I got just a tad better then 20 MPG. Does that sound about right for a easy road trip?(well it was easy on the way down as MikieC was leading and he never broke 55 MPH) on the way back I averaged about 80 MPH. |
thats not bad at all............
|
Dan, you got a hybrid?

DWRAT: What trans and gearing do you have.

2000 RPMs = 75 MPH 2100 RPMs = 80 MPH |
My RPM's are about the same with a 3.25 rearend and a Tremic TKO w/.82 OD 5th gear.
My gas cosumption is a differednt thing...average 14.5 on the open road...hard to keep it under 80 mph. Bill |
Bill, You're doing better than I am. I get about 12.5 MPG on the road at 70-75 MPH. I can bump that to about 15 to 17 if I do 95 MPH. Turns about 2500RPM at 95 MPH.

Hey DWRAT:
Both of your numbers cannot be correct. If 2,000 RPM = 75, I calculate 2100 RPMs to be 78.75. Regardless, you are running a very tall top gear. My top gear is 2.54 (overall, 3.73 w 0.68 OD) and I turn 1,900 RPMs at 60 MPH. Bob |
3.54 rear end, Tremec TKO600 with .82 rear end. Roush 427IR. I get about 18-19 on open road driving including in the mountains.
My crank only drives the alternator and water pump. Mileage increases when the HP goes to the rear end instead of accessories. |

1900 = 70 2000 = 75 2100 = 80 That is more accurate then my speed which is off by about 8% or so. |
I don't know how anybody gets those %/kind of numbers. Regardless I stop after 120 Miles and fill up because I don't trust the damn gage. I reset it each time I fill up. The gage is all over the place when you turn hard to port or hard to starboard:eek:
It could be because of the Airstream I am pulling but I bet on a good day I am running 14 tops. |
I get about 24 on the road.
Love a small block, 3:27 gears and .64 5th. Mike |
My 418W, 3.73 axle ratio, TKO 600 w/.64 OD gets 21 MPG at 70 mph at 2100 rpm on freeway. Around town....8-10.

I've got two questions for you guys. 1. Did any of you buy your Cobras because of the "good" gas mileage that you get? and 2. When you get together with other car guys how many of you brag about your Cobras gas milage? :p Sorry I just couldn't help myself  When I'm asked about mileage my usual answer is " I have no idea" or "who cares".

Actually when I built mine I had long distance cruising in mind. I also wanted a very docile small Block, ie 325 HP. The good mileage is a by product of that build.
So it looks good, sounds good and performs well. Mike |
8-10 mpg around town... about 12 mpg on long, extended cruises at 65-70 mph. Running a 3.73 rear end, a 0.82 overdrive, & a snotty cam in an aluminum 427W.
|
8-10 around town and 12 on the hiway with a snotty wife sitting next to me.
|
Mikiec, didn't you transpose your HP numbers? I thought your car was more like 235HP instead of 325.
|
Only when I let you pass me. :):):)
Mike |
I get a whopping 8 to 10 in the city and a big 12 on the highway. Impressive isn't it??
