Glad to hear you are doing better.

Maricopa 10-06-2009 09:08 AM

Now you know that doing 'that' causes more than blindness and hairy palms....so stop it already! :)

Good to hear you're out buddy!

mikiec 10-06-2009 10:08 AM

Jeffrey,
What a SLACKER! Oh well, I guess the hospital is a good enough excuse for not going to Tucson John's. Glad to hear that you're doing better and real glad to hear that you quit smoking. 'Taint nuthin' good about that nasty habit. There's way too few of us sensible Chevy Cobra guys to risk losing one.

DonMorse 10-06-2009 02:59 PM

Hey Gang,
So after about 35+ years of smoking a pack a day I am damn lucky not to have normal scarring and signs smoking on my X-rays or cat scans.Turns out to be a good dose of Pneumonia in L & R lobes. The good news is I don't have H1N1 or 9 other virus's cultures have eliminated.

They did let me out on good behavior. It is not that I choose to be good but rather have little choice. So I am now about 10 days into being a non smoker but they say it will get easier?? THANKS all Jeff C

Danr55 10-08-2009 11:18 AM

Congratulations Jeff. It's the best decision you've ever been forced into. It will be tough for a while, but you will appreciate the $$ you're going to save and food will taste better in a couple of weeks. In two years, the effects of all that smoking should be minimized. I quit in 1990. The one thing I have to thank my exwife for.

vettestr 10-09-2009 09:52 AM

Dan,
If I don't get fragged by my loved ones dealing with my withdrawals life is good. I know quitting is the right thing to do on so many levels but I miss some aspects.

Jeff,

you've got about 6 weeks of hell in front of you, but it's well worth it. Here's how I know; after 16 years of 2 packs a day, I quit cold on 1-1-89. Doctor's orders. I was a prick to deal with for 6 weeks, wait, make that 21 years. Ask my ex-wife.

Seriously, 21 years clean for me and my health's a lot better for it. And it will get easier for you the longer you get from that last smoke.. You'll find you don't want to be any where near someone that lights-up either.

Hang in there!

Dave

vettestr 10-11-2009 07:54 AM

Well my last smoke was on Sept. 29 and I had a room by Oct 2. via the ER. They have me on several antibiotics, steroids and a few of unknown origin. I can only keep telling myself this joy will not last much longer.

I think the cat wants to take me out!!! The dog is not a leader and can be manipulated pretty easy and have seeen the cat workin on him. If I get wacked take a hard look at the cat!

Danr55 10-11-2009 10:23 AM

Jeff, the social aspects are the toughest to deal with and they last the longest. I'm out 19 years and I still think about it sometimes. Then I realize that a pack of smokes cost twice what a gallon of gasoline costs and it's many times worse for you than drivin the car.. So, by not smoking I can buy gasoline, pay rent and utilities, and drive the Cobra. Oh, a live a lot longer.. So, get through social dependence and rely on yours friends to understand.. ?? Um??.. well maybe understand but undoubtedly give you ****.. and you'll get through this.

Karl Bebout 10-11-2009 10:28 AM

Jeff, I quit my three packs a day, thirty years ago. I'm damsure I'd be dead if I had not quit when I did. Couldn't even sneak up on my wife without her hearing me coughing as I was coming down the street. I wouldn't wear a shirt if it didn't have a pocket for my Salems and I burned a butt before my feet hit the floor in the morning. I LIKED IT! I was watching football, drinking beer, at a neighbor's when I ran out of smokes so I just quit. It was 'way past time and I guess that if I could quit, anyone can. You just have to want to.

mikiec 10-11-2009 03:42 PM

After 1 week of smoking I gave it up. Could not understand why the grownups seemed to do it, tasted terrible plus made me sick.

Oh I think I was 8 or so.

Mike

Jeff

Good to hear that you are off the smokes. Yes big savings to be made. The government here are lifting the taxes on tobacco by 30%.. A good incentive for some to give up smoking over here also..%/
