Got Bit by the SNAKE!

Well, it has finally happened to me......... I was playing around with a Corvette today and lost her going down Ellsworth road... I almost saved it several times as I was swerving down the road, but in the end I ran out of talent and the car spun out. :JEKYLHYDE

I was having fun spinning across two lanes of road for what seemed like 2 miles, even got backwards to see the Vette behind me right before she went up the center divider curbing. See the most important thing here, (as Jim B pointed out) is that, in fact the Vette was SMOKED prior to my loss of talent...

I must thank the off duty police officer in the Vette (Who flashed his badge as he pulled over to help) for stopping and pointing out the fact that I "lost it." He even waited for his partner to show up to give me more ribbing. You see both Police officers still think that the Vette had a chance (strong talk considering my Cobra was wrecked). I ensured them it was only a flesh wound and I will be back. No tickets and one flatbed tow truck involved and she is resting back in the garage.

Just when you think it can't happen to you...... WALA there you go!

mikiec 12-24-2009 05:31 PM

You and Karl...

How long before it's fixed? Will it be ready for Saturday's run? Has Barb beaten you yet? Seems like the eastsiders have the most oops...

Glad you are OK.

Mike

RedBarchetta 12-24-2009 06:57 PM

Let me get this straight...You were street racing an off-duty police officer?!?

Niiiiice......

Karl Bebout 12-24-2009 07:13 PM

Brian, glad you are OK. Such a thrill, wrecking your baby, isn't it? Doesn't sound too bad from your description, thank goodness. No trees or bushes got in your way. I'm still messing with getting mine back together, but I think I broke it a little more than your's. Those Corvette's do seem to get into the thick of things. I vaguely remember a black Z06 being in the vicinity when I took my car out through the desert. Hmmm

Yes Barb kicked the Sh!t out of me, I had to call her from work to come pick me up. I had one flat tire so I thought, but it was the rim that was flat. I have my race tires that can go on the car until Team 3 get's mine fixed. I need to get back in the saddle for sure!

Yes, I had no idea he was an of duty Police officer until he flipped his badge on me after I spun out. I was thinking holy cow I better come up with a good story on this one.... I told him i missed a shift from 4th to 5th and hit third by accident, the sudden jerk caused me to punch the gas and around she came...

Karl,
This is the Marine's curse! The same gal that chose your car last year chose mine this year... that is the only thing that ties this together... all the bad luck I mean... it has nothing to due with street racing on old tires at 8am in the cold morning… I am starting to re-think the whole Corvette thing, maybe I should just let one win every once in a while…:LOL:

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 12-25-2009 06:06 AM

Brian, I am so sorry to hear about your misfortune. I don't know anyone who is more capable of driving/controling/racing a cobra, so this must have been quite a surprise. I will always remember my 7 months of wait for repair. Yours will seem like an eternity.

AZ Bob

BP,

I am glad to read that you and the green monster are repairable.

I have missed 5th for 3rd at the race track and it is very scary.

dave from mesa 12-25-2009 09:31 AM

Brian
Sorry to hear about you're misfortune. Hope you get it fixed quickly (at least faster than Karl's:CRY:).
Guess this means you won't be going on the run this Sat?

BPWilliams 12-25-2009 12:51 PM

Thanks Dave, we will see about Saturday...... And Yes, Karl is way to hard on his equipment!!

Danr55 12-25-2009 04:18 PM

Brian, Too bad about your car. Glad you are both fixable though.. If you don't make this Saturday, you can still make the Yarnell run on 1-1 MAYBE?

RedSnake351 12-25-2009 09:59 PM

And I'm definitely not opening my mouth about spinning out and doing some major damage a few years ago. All I want to say, it's an awful feeling as it's happening, it seems to take a loooong time while you're waiting for the crash.
Glad you didn't receive any damage, Brian.

Ralph :MECOOL:

Fitz 12-25-2009 10:25 PM

You should wait until after 11AM. It is too cold out there in the mornings.Watch out for those Marines. If it rains you can bring the boat? Glad all your body parts are ok!

John-Tucson 12-26-2009 09:47 PM

Hey Brian, Glad to hear that you are OK. If my insurance rates start to go up it will be because of all you Phoenix guys ( you "crashers" know who you are). Barb, hit him once for me.

mikiec 12-27-2009 08:25 AM

Hey, john... I hear you and someothers down in Tucson land have added to rate rise...

We should do a survey and find out how many of the gang have had incidents. Second thought I do not want to know.

I think the Phoenix guys still hold the record of 3 cobras down in one incident, we did have help from some lady in an SUV.

OK, so after a quick CSI I think I know what happened....

here is a little back ground before I talk about my theory. My Tires are bad, these are the tires I have had on my car since it was built, six years ago. They have had countless track days on them and with that said I have worn them in places that street tires do not normally see wear.

Here is my story and I am sticking to it. The inside drivers side tire blew when I grabbed third gear along the inside side wall / tire. I found a split in the tire where it was down to the cords (shame on me). When the car spun in circles and finally backed over the center median the passenger tire was fine, no bent rim. But, the drivers side (pictured above) was already flat by the time the curb came along so the rim took the impact, not the tire.
This would also explain why the car "jumped" out so violently and I could not get it back in a straight line as I have done countless times before. I normally keep my foot in it and she comes around nicely. With one of the rear tires flat she was handling like a wet sponge and finally came around.
I knew I was on borrowed time with the tires and they were bad at Laughlin, and I did a crummy burn out at the Christmas party because I knew they were bad.

I should have just parked the car until I could get some new sneakers!

John no worries, this was not reported to the insurance company. I do my own work!

dave from mesa 12-28-2009 06:57 AM

Glad you found out what was wrong. Other than the rim did anything else get hurt (rear end, axles)? Hope you get it fixed and have new tires soon.

Maricopa 12-28-2009 10:53 AM

Karl I believe you have something that belongs to Brian..... ;)

Ya'll be careful out there.

mikiec 12-28-2009 11:48 AM

Just what I was thinking..................

Mike

dave from mesa 12-28-2009 11:59 AM

Man
Karl hasn't even had it for a month.
