CC Unit

Rick,
In my FFR Cobra, I used the Ford factory cruise unit. Took the switches out of the steering wheel and mounted them in the dash on the far left side, hidden by the top of the door. On the Willys, I used all stock Chevy parts. On the 59 Thunderbird, I used the Audiovox type CC unit with the switches hidden in the ash tray.

Rick, a newer cruise control uses a magnet on the driveshaft. I don't know all of the particulars. I have encouraged all of the Cobra builders out here to install the cc as they build the car, however, they are all macho guys and haven't. Now, many of them wish that they had, simply because of the 100 mile drive from Tucson to get anywhere. Bob, keep the unit and you may reconsider later this year as you beging to drive longer distances.

Thanks for the info.

Just buy a Toyota and we can change bodies.

You sure about that? Have you seen Bob's body? %/

CC is for those of us that go on 4 day cruises. Go 5 hours on the interstate without it and tell me how all you need is a right leg. You'll probably need a new right leg by then.

I put in the audiovox kit. It only needs a tach signal. The controls are completely hidden so no one can see what a wus.....uh, I mean, how smart I am.

You smooth tongues! OK, I am going to keep it for future use. Might get me an extra year or two with my favorite toy. I'm only a year from retirement so I'll have lots of time.

Gatorac, was your cc an added-on item after you had started driving the car ? I am interested in your installation and if you are happy with it. The macho guys out here complain after a mere two hour drive. But then again, they complain all the time.

John-Tucson 03-05-2010 06:37 PM

Bob, I thought that you were planning to retire this spring ??? Aren't the Phoenix guys buying enough drugs from you ?

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 03-06-2010 12:55 PM

John, my retirement is April 2011 when I reach 66 like you did back in 1998.
