AZ Cobras Picnic

I e-mailed Mikec that the Cave Creek/Carefree Fiesta Rodeo Parade will not be on the first Saturday of April so that should be a good day for our annual picnic in Rattlesnake Cove at Bartlett Lake. With no hold ups through town.

Just got Mike's e-mail:

Annual Picnic 10am til 3pm

April 3rd this year. (Saturday)

Place: Rattlesnake Cove Bartlett lake
Want to caravan? Meet at the Chevron at Carefree Highway and Cave
Creek rd at 9am. (AZ Bob will be there to show the way)

As usual, I'll be at the picnic area by 8-815 am saving
spaces. Ginny and I will provide charcoal, condiments, paper plates.

Picnic

When I talked to Mike at 83th and Beardsley he said that there was a pass that needed to be bought to go to Lake Bartlett, where do you go to buy one.

mikiec 03-25-2010 11:40 AM

You can pick up this pass at most sporting goods stores. It is a Tonto Forest day pass.

I believe you can even get it at the meeting place gas station.

There are several convenience stores that also sell the passes. All that I've seen, have a sign displayed saying they sell the passes.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 03-25-2010 08:06 PM

It's called a Tonto Pass. Sells for $6. Use this site to find a location near you. I suggest you pick it up ahead of time or at the ranger station just after turning onto the Barlett Lake Road. Don't punch out the day & time until you arrive.

Most Big 5 sporting goods, Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc.

I bought my Tonto Pass at Big 5 Sports, $6. Here is a Google Maps photo of the Chevron Station we will be meeting at Saturday morning with 9am departure. I will be there about 8:30am. http://tinyurl.com/yb64myq
Bring chairs, food, snacks and drinks. Going to be 75 degrees and sunny with 0% chance of precipitation.
One last thing: Don't speed in the park once on Bartlett Road. Rangers make their living off of speeders there.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 03-29-2010 12:16 PM

Dan,

Where do you want to meet?

Danr55 03-29-2010 05:24 PM

Either the Chevron Station at Ellsworth and Brown or the Chevron Station at Recker and McDowell. Either one is easy.

dave from mesa 03-29-2010 06:50 PM

Recker and McDowell it is. I'll tell Mike B. That weenie Karl isn't going.

Skully 03-29-2010 07:40 PM

I was watching a video on You Tube , one of the Cobra Car Clubs had track time for their cars in Texas, can we do that at a track in the Phoenix area. This was a road course, what would we have to do and who would we contact. Does anyone have any ideas?

Danr55 03-29-2010 07:52 PM

Skully, Read the threads.. I think Ratboy is trying to pull something together right now..

RedSnake351 03-29-2010 09:10 PM

Skully, Tom was talking about that subject yesterday at the car show. You'd have to join one of the car clubs that he is involved in and then you can take the Cobra out at PIR and maybe Firebird also.
Ralph

Mike Brasfield 03-29-2010 09:16 PM

Recker and McDowell at what time? Lorraine and I will be there.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 03-30-2010 10:18 AM

Skully, the AZ Cobras as a group, have participated 3 times with Pro Auto Sports: http://www.proautosports.com/ at Firebird west and east tracks over the years. Including their driver training. It is never cheap but becomes affordable as a group. It is a fun weekend with training and running in the red group, not racing. You do learn about what your cobra is capable of. We have member drivers who help train. Mikie C has been thinking about another race weekend. Perhaps in the fall?
I, for one, have done all the racing I ever will but encourage all drivers to learn you're and your car limits.
