I have nothing to drive.

DWRAT 03-02-2010 06:33 PM

Anyone planning on going please see this link: http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/n...ets/index.html

It's the NHRA car requirements based on times.

They usually have helmets for sale at F1 race factory, the indoor go kart track. Don't remember what kind they sell.

Karl Bebout 03-02-2010 07:43 PM

4910, Check craigslist. I picked up a full face shield helmet with good sanctioning dates for a reasonable cost.

thanks for the advice guys

DWRAT, thought you had a deal with the track folks?

I see above you post a link to an article on NHRA rules, but earlier you posted the track folks said they would be accomodating of our times if we let them know ahead of time how fast we intend to run.

Which is it? I do not comply with the 5-point roll bar rule, like everyone except Karlos... Are we going to be thrown off the track at 11.99 or not? I need to know, because I cannot see going that far to get tossed early.

BTW, thanks for trying to set this up and I hope to see you there.

vettestr 03-03-2010 10:25 AM

Hey E,
I know what you mean about wanting more 1 run before you get tossed. If you rip off a to fast pass right out of the box you will get tossed. On your first few passes make only half track runs. When you get a warm and fuzzy with your launch, track condition and if she will hook up extend the run a little but apply the binders around 3/4 track. If you braking hard enough for tire smoke even though no loss of control you will get tossed on the spot.

All that said sneaking up on a full track pass is probably a good idea anyway. The big cubic inch cars or those with P adders should plan your runs knowing a full pass will be your last pass. Race the 1/8 mile until then.

With all the recent rain they will have to prep the track to some level but some tracks consider the slower cars run on a Friday as track prep for faster Sat racing. It is night racing so track may/will be cold and slick making 13+ second passes common

Track Rules last visit

These rules applied on a week day special night where all NHRA rules were not enforced. Several years ago.

----REQUIRED IF RUNNING ON THE DRAG STRIP BY EVERYONE
Drivers license & proof of insurance
Snell SA-2000 or higher approved helmet
Long pants
Long sleeve shirts
Coolant overflow tank no less than 16 ounces
5 point harnesses with 3" Seat belts, shoulder & anti-sub belt
(SFI harness must be dated 2 years or newer if in a full caged roll bar car)
Roll bar (factory bar acceptable)
Securely mounted battery
Tail lights must be lit at the starting line and during the trip down the track
Driveshaft loop required if running slicks

----REQUIRED IF RUNNING UNDER A 12 SECOND, OR OVER A 135 MPH 1/4 MILE
SFI approved bellhousing
SFI approved flywheel & clutch
Arm restraint straps (recommended even if not running under 12 seconds!)

----REQUIRED IF RUNNING UNDER A 11 SECOND, OR OVER A 135 MPH 1/4 MILE
SFI approved harmonic damper
Protective clothing
Roll cage
Transmission shield

I don't want to rain on the parade, but.... NHRA rules are the reason Firebird won't let us run there.
AZ Bob

Jeff, thanks

Yeah, I know I can go easy, but then what is the point? The old, little 427 motor ran right at 12.0X, with a bad fuel map, as you may recall. I fully expect the 540 to go some better, but we will see.

I was hoping for a venue like with the SECC, where we had Karl and Greg running in the 10s for repeated passes... I guess we can't have it all, all the time (God, I hate saying that, it is so against my nature).

I guess I may still attend, but likely just to watch. The trip is too far from Queen-tucky to just do some half-track passes.

Still, it seems we should be able to get the same courtesy as has been extended to the SECC on multiple occasions?

DWRAT 03-03-2010 12:41 PM

I posted the NHRA rules for everyone to look at.

Anyone planning on going and has a FAST car please call Victoria yourself and run it by her, she's the boss not me.

Karl Bebout 03-03-2010 01:57 PM

Eric, why don't you just get around to putting a decent roll bar/cage in that beast? I sure you could find SOMEONE to engineer a way. 'Taint rocket science, after all. You like to track the car so a decent cage would probably allow you to run in a faster class, maybe? Justa thought.

greg schroeder 03-03-2010 05:59 PM

I think they might lighten up on club days, but not positive. The couple times I've gone and they let me make passes in the 10s around 130 mph they seemed satisfied with.....

Roll bar over the helmet height. I ducked down and they said ok.
5 point belt
helmet with the snell sticker
Arm restraints
basic fire jacket
long pants
shoes
battery in back in stock location
drive shaft loop
scatter shield bell housing
overflow tank for radiator

If the DA is around 1000 ft there should be some good day times and mph.

ItBites 03-04-2010 09:16 AM

DWRAT: Thanks again for setting this up. Hope the turnout is good. Was just hoping they had given you some hope in your chats that full NHRA requirements would not be held to...

Karlos: You are so right, I need to follow your lead. I'd love to build a cage, but the rocket science that pays the bills has me swamped these days and just don't have the time. BTW, when are you getting Copperhead back?

Greg: Yeah, I was there for one of the days (had the vette that day cuz the Cobra was broke - Oh yeah, I forgot that I watered the track when a hose split =( ). I have the same gear and equipment as you for the Cobra. The only thing I am not compliant on is the roll bar (5 pts mandatory for the past few years). I also do the duck-down thing when checking bar height... Did they ever let you make full passes on a non-club day? I may just take my chances and see how it goes. Who knows, Jeff may be right and I can't get out of the 13s.

DWRAT 03-16-2010 10:38 PM

Sorry guys, looks like this date is a no go or at least it's a no go for me at this time.
If you all want to go you need to contact Victoria at Speedworld to make arrangements.

mikiec 03-16-2010 11:46 PM

Quit dropping things inside the motor and all will be well. I guess I'll have to wait to let you see a really fast car....................... With a slow driver. :):)

Guys, since Ratboy set this up, let's postpone until after he gets his motor back together.

Mike

Car Nut 03-17-2010 07:51 AM

That will give me more time to get the Falcon together. ;)

What???
Only wimps watch, bring your car and have some fun.

China 03-20-2010 12:14 AM

Few reasons :p My check engine is on (either my EGR is bad or MAF. Code 34) Which affects performance big time. (running rich) Plus I am hoping to have the car primed by then, so I can drive it around. (Doing body work right now.)
