Excellent question. I would run a credit check and, of course, always review a copy of the title certificate. Run a DMV check while you're at it. ;)

Or the always popular "well it turns out he was going through a divorce and his wife has a claim on it, somthing amount it being a marital asset or something, I don't know, but you got ship it back now -- really sorry about that...."

Well that could be the case, even if he completed the transaction in person.

Thanks Bob, I have spent so much time on the phone with Nick that I have no worries at all. I would send him a check for $1,000 in a heart beat and not give it a second thought, but for the amount to purchase a cobra.....I have to be smart about it!

Rodknock, not an Ebay car....it's a CC menber who has a cobra shop and is selling one of his customers cars. I would love to visit with him in person because he seems like he has a wealth of knowledge....but 10-12 hours on a plane without a smoke.....I might loose my mind!

I've known Nick for quite some time, he is, like myself, a true tell it like it is type of guy. That Contemporary that you are thinking of purchasing is a smoking deal........Ask Nick his honest opinion on the car and what he thinks it might need in the near future and if you are happy with his 100% honest responses (I have never known him to be anything less than 100% honest), buy the car, yes, sight unseen knowing that you are getting a really nice car and a great price.
Hope you find this a bit reassuring as well.
Yours In Fords,
Bill S.

Nick is a totally trustworthy guy. I probably talk to him every week and have bought a number of things from him. He sends me things all the time and I usually receive the item before I get the invoice. He is also very knowlegable on cobras. Just call him and tell him you want to verify the title is clear since he isn't the owner. Or get on a plane and go see him and do it in person.

Run a credit check on the owner and see if he is inches away from going Chapter 7 on you. Another nightmare scenario is having the Trustee in bankruptcy trying to get the car back from you....

Thanks a lot Bill....I appreciate that coming from you! It was down to his car and yours in my search.....but for the price of his on my "first" cobra, and having the funds to get the '31 p/u I have also always wanted in addition....I felt like I could not pass it up!

I'll bet he's all "R1" and "I1" with no collection items, BK's, liens or judgements. He's the "salt of the Earth." :D

Heck, if the seller's FICO is 750+, I'd marry him. I wonder if they allow that in AZ or NH?
MA does right?

But as I understand it, Nick does not own the car, he's just brokering it....

No problem, everyone has their own choices of what car is right for them, I can't fault your logic at all. Once you get your dream car, above all else, enjoy the ride.

That looks a lot like a Contemporary that I looked at a couple of years ago when I was shopping for a replacement. The car was in New Hampshire. I was on a business trip to New York and took a couple of extra days and drove up there.

Hey Mikie... Do you think it's safe to tell him about JOHN or do we wait so we don't scare him away... The new guy, not John.. We've tried to scare John away. It doesn't work.

With a little luck I may be able to make the July 4th run...... I am having Nick make a few changes on the car for me, then a week or so to get it shipped here, gonna be close. So do you think it would be "too redneck" to have the transporter meet me at the Walmart parking lot???????
|

Anyway you can get the car is not "too redneck".

I just think it will be a hoot! Jeff says you can't make fun of rednecks unless you are one and "I r one".... Like I mention before, I have to trailer it home regardless...the last 3/4 mile of my "driveway" is literally a wash bed, I seriously doubt I could even get it delivered out here. I'll be sure to snap some photos when it's delivered.
