Eye Surgery tomorrow
Hey guys, If my life isnt stressful enough I wont be driving the cobra for a while. My retina detached from my eye tonight and I have to have surgery tomorrow to reattach. It happened spontaneously which they said almost never happens especially at my age so I am trying not to freak out about it. I will take any prayers people are willing to give but they said no driving for about a week until I asked about a convertible and they said 2-4 weeks

Don't let'm know what gears you're running or how much horsepower or it could be MONTHS???
Good luck....follow their instructions to the letter.

Holy Smokes Ron. Must be that huge torque your big block puts out. Good luck with your surgery. Have a painless procedure and a quick recovery.
Want me to take your car out? I'm going on a 2500 mile road trip end of next week.

Ron,
Good luck. Just bring your car over to my place. It will be safe. If the motor looks smaller, when you get it back, don't worry it's just the effects of the surgery.

Mikies - I might be blind but my hearing works just fine. I would know the sound of my motor with both eyes tied behind my back so I could tell if it was missing. I just got it rolled over on 1600 miles last week too. Well maybe I can just go out and start it so I can get my fix of that sound and the sweet smell it leaves in my garage after it runs for a while.
PS Surgery is at 3 today and I will be a one eyed pirate with a patch for a couple of days

Ron,
Don't let them use a pink patch. Get black to match the car.
Again, Good lick

I wish you a quick recovery, this surgery should be almost "routine" and effective.
I observed that detached retina are not uncommon among drag recers and a powerful Cobra with its quick acceleration and decelaration is almost a dragster.

Have a speedy recovery! If you have otherwise normal vision be extremely careful when driving with a patch. Your depth perception will be nonexistent, and if you don't know what that means you are in for the shock of your life. I've always only had one working eye ("lazy eye" here) so you learn to compensate, but I have a friend who had a minor stroke that cost him vision in one eye and he still can't park his car.

Best of luck with the surgery. I just had to have the lens in both of my eyes replaced about two months ago and it was really easy. But that isn't the same as what you have. As stated above, follow their instructions to the letter and you will be surprised at how fast your eye recovers.

Ron61,
Did they have you stay awake for your lens replacement? They did for mine. Really strange feeling but no pain at all, ever.
csx4910,
Hope all go's/went well. Take care.

Terry,
Yes, I stayed awake and the whole surgery took about 5 to 7 minutes for each eye. They did one and then about a month later the other one. I was on a study they were doing and they paid me $300 for doing that. I talked to the surgeon and he told me what he was doing each step of the way. Never any pain and great to be able to see clearly again.

I think that you should also tell to your doctor that you car has a "hard" suspension and maybe vibrations. Maybe it will be safe for you to cure completely and wait a few weeks before driving your Cobra. And maybe also to avoid quick eyes movements, muscles moving the eyeballs can bring strain to the retina.

I wanted to thank everyone for the kind words and prayers. I am having a bit of trouble still focusing with that eye but the extreme light sensitivity is starting to get better. The doc said the "floaters" I am seeing will last up to 6 months while it heals but (knock on wood) I should heal up fine and not have any more problems with it. It was way more painful than the lasic surgery I had 6 months ago and the light from the laser as they keep your ey open staring right into it felt like I was being tortured. It left me with teh worst migraine headache I have ever felt in my life but it's over and I can start healing to get back on the road.
Thanks Again
Ron
