I had my standrd SPF now for 7 years, (changed to firefly) as said already you will be heard before you are even seen. I live in a very quiet area and to respect the others i keep the RPM low and short gears until im further out.

Coming home at 3am is a no no...

But just do it, but keep the RPM's down.

Happy cruising

Skip. :D

Skippy, thanks for this advice. What is driving me nuts is I do not have my Cobra yet and I am endevoring to hear the engine sounds with different side pipes before the install begins. Also, I have'nt a clue as to the sound the car is likely to make when finally completed. Here in China there are no Cobras or high powered autos, thus the frustration. I have waited ten years for this car and its almost done, so the expectation is a killer. tin-man:CRY:

Tinner, another thing to remember is that the car always sound different from inside. What you hear behind the wheel is not necessarily what everyone else will hear 20 feet away.

A sight I'd love to see...pissing off 2 billion Communists as you roar down main street at six in the morning.

How do you know that they just won't lock you up and impound the car for some state official's kid?!?

There are at least 10,000 people on main street 24/7

Dean, contrary to popular opinion, there are only about one hundred million party members [comunists] who control this country, the rest of the folks are like you and me trying to earn a decent living and generally mindin' their own business. Only issue they only get to have one kid and that's a shame. But I certainly can see myself raisin' hell driving thru Red Square in Beijing. I would have to be blind drunk and at peace with myself since, I would eventually be surrounded by PLA [Peoples Liberation Army] police with AK47's get accused of disrupting the peace, locked up and they sure as hell would throw the keys away. The car would definitley go to some party member on some pretext and not his kid, screw the kid. I can see it now, the dude fires it up and does a 360 and ****s his pant, tries to get outa the car gets bitten and hobbles away with a big loss of face.:LOL::LOL::LOL: Thanks for the imagery. tin-man

Hi Dan, so when the Arizona club members go on one of their outing the sound must be awesome correct?

Can you help describe the sound?

Thanks, tin-man

Danr55 08-22-2010 08:51 AM

Tinner, Try this link. It's Youtube so I don't know if you can hook it up from over there..

Hi Dan, Thanks for the Youtube clip, unfortunately its blocked. The only thing that comes to my mind on the sound thing is from the movie, ironically called "Cobra" with Stallone, where hundreds of bikers where on a cruise and the sound was like muffled thunder. Is this the sound that gets made from a Cobra outing?

Tinner, just wait until you get the chance to be with a couple dozen Cobras, going through the tunnel just East of Superior. Boys will be boys, and everyone WILL rev their engines. Music to my ears, and I'm deaf as a post.

Mike, I am thinking the car will be ready in November and thus I will take delivery and register in Phoenx that month. The roller is at Hillbank in Califonia, the engine is finally going to dyno this maybe next week, The transmission was shipped from Bowler to Roush and they will ship the entire engine tranny combo second week in September to Voss Performance in California. I am looking at about 5-6 weeks install. This is my best guess. I will know exactly when all the components come together at Voss. When I have an exact date I will let you know so we can plan a get together, as I recall I am on the hoof for a free lunch somewhere, Danr55 was to pick the venue. During that time I can give you guys the long awaited tee shirts, and most importantly get to meet with several of the Arizona Cobra Club regulars.

Cheers, John, AKA tin-man:)

I built a quick site so you can download a dgitally recorded mp3 of a Roush 511iR cold start in a Superformance MKIII with the stock SPF pipes. Hope the link works...

Sandy, how many feet from the exhaust was the mike ? At the side ?

SandyC 08-24-2010 05:37 PM

I'd guess about 5 feet off the right side. The reason I put up the link is that I think it might be the same type of engine Tin-Man is putting in his car.

It was recorded inside a garage with the garage door open.

tin-man 08-24-2010 09:59 PM

Friggin awesome

SandyC, thank you very much for the time you took to make the sound a reality for me. The sound is without a doubt friggin AWESOME. I attached some very large industrial type speakers and almost blew the walls down. Its made my day. I owe you big time. Thanks, tin-man::):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

SandyC 08-25-2010 12:39 AM

Hey no problem. Be prepared for your car to set off burglar alarms when you slowly drive thru a parking lot. :3DSMILE:

Edit:
Oh and seriously consider ear protection; you know, those foam ear plugs. Your engine/pipe combo along with the wind can damage your hearing in short order. Permanent tinnitus will drive you crazy and hearing loss sucks big time. Most of the guys, I noticed, use earplugs.

Danr55 08-25-2010 06:37 AM

Ear protection is a must unless you crank the sterio so loud that the tires vibrate.. In which case you'll get bad looks from Jim.. Ha Ha ha..

Dang, I forgot to order a sterio....I got me power seats, power brakes, power windows, tinted windshield, heated seats, air conditioning, cup holers, high headrest, automatic transmission, overdrive, tape player, CD player, cruise control, and, oops, wait a minute, that's for my Durango, sorry:LOL:.

Who is Jim, is he with the Sphincter Police?? tin-man.

Life in China

Tin Man,

Where are you in China? I have spent almost 2 years working in Shanghai but am back now. Sure missed good food, hot women and my Cobra.

Mike

PS.... I agree about the ear plugs....My 522 motor at 10 feet registers 92 dba at idle and 116 dba at 2600 rpm.

That roughly translates to about 74 dba and 95 dba respectively at 80 feet away. :D
