City of Tucson tax 1 year later!!!!!!
Ok check this out. I purchased a BackDraft cobra from a dealer in Texas about a year ago. I had it registered and payed the state tax on the sale of the vehicle. Just yesterday (almost a year ago) I received a letter from City of Tucson stating that I owe 2% city tax on the vehicle. I was told at the time I registered I only needed to pay 6.6% state tax on the sale of the vehicle and now the city hits me with a 2% sales tax almost 1 years later. Has anyone ever had this problem? Talking about things coming back to haunt you, this sure was a surprise..

Do you live inside Tucson city limits? If so, this makes sense (Glad I live in the county!)....assuming you did not pay sales tax in Texas when you bought it, I don't think they can double tax you.

Just 0.02 here:
A county, city or municipal power to tax comes from the state legislature. If you hold a state representative accountable maybe there is a remedy. I know some states have local taxing of vehicles, but this is usually combined with a lower state tax. Florida comes to mind. Personal property tax in Virginia is brutal if you have a car collection as they hit you up for about 2% a year per car every year!

I am out in the car all the time. Had it a month and a half, and have already put almost 1,500 miles on it here in town. Yet to meet any of the local guys.....I am beginning to think Tucson cobra owners are an urban myth...like sand bass or chupacabra!!! LOL!

I don't know about Tucson Cobra owners or the Chupacabra, but I've caught lots of Sand Bass.

Not much get togethers during the summer. Everyone is bald and their heads burn! I think John will be hosting his annual BBQ soon, so watch out for that.
As for the tax, I haven't been hit with it yet due to the slowest build on record but my brother had to pay it with his FFR.

ffr2602, I think that that tax is only a year or two old. I remember reading about it the last time the city needed money.
