Cruise Saturday 11/05

I'm a relatively new cobra owner and have been following threads a little bit lately. I know there aren't thousands of us in the Phx area but I'm a bit surprised there isn't more interest in organizing some drives from time to time. I'd like to organize a cruise from either 101/Indian bend up rt 88 toward tortilla flats and on to the 188/87 interchange then back down south again OR just up bush highway to Payson and back down again. I'm completely open to suggestions. I'd just like to get some folks together for a fun cruise. What do you think?

Danr55 11-03-2011 11:00 PM

A cruise is a great idea but I'm changing an alternator on Saturday.

peterh 11-04-2011 12:47 AM

Ah, well as it turns out I'll be in LA all weekend. Fun stuff. Sorry, all. Maybe something for the 12th? And thank you, Dan, for the reply - even if it was a no.

Danr55 11-04-2011 06:37 AM

How about we try this, a joint breakfast run with the Tucson guys on Nov. 12. We could meet in Florence and drive somewhere in the south where it's warmer than than up north. We can con John into pulling up one of his famous "tours" of Southern Arizona.

John, whaddayasay?

peterh 11-04-2011 08:33 AM

Sounds like a plan! Let's get some tentative times/places/routes set out and I'll try to get some exotics to come along.

SkipB 11-04-2011 08:51 AM

Peter,

A couple of things to note. This weekend is supposed to be potentially a bit wet. So, it is a great weekend to be gone or changing an alternator.

Second, I am pretty new to Arizona (I moved here last December) but pretty impressed with how much the local guys seem to go cruising. I think you will see weekend cruises happening very often now that it is not 100 plus outside. In fact since I am Cobra less for now, I am looking forward to hitching a ride on a few of the many cruises in the near future. I moved here from San Diego and I think the Arizona group is more active than the So. Cal groups! So, look forward to much activity. I hope to meet you and a bunch of the other guys soon.

Hey Skip.. Don't make me come after you! Please join us at our anniversary party on Dec. 3. Keep your eyes peeled for additional info here. It's one of the best events of the year. You need to buy two gifts. One, an unwrapped toy that we donate to Toys for Tots through the USMC. A second gift is a gag gift, generally not to exceed $25, for a Yankee Swap. That along with the Marines who select a car for a ride, become the highlights of the day.

SkipB 11-04-2011 10:10 AM

Dan,

The anniversary party sounds great. I put it on the calendar. But, I should probably meet with you guys first! I would love to cruise on November 11th, but I have a friend coming into town for the NASCAR race on Sunday. Any chance you guys might have two empty seats on the right side for Saturday? My buddy is a car guy, and probably nicer than I am.

Good luck with the alternator.

I don't know that we will have anyone going yet. I'll certainly check and let you know.

mikiec 11-04-2011 01:28 PM

Peterh,(Grasshopper) we do Tortilla flats 3 or more times a year. Since you are new here you will find many cruising adventures await you.

Dan, I'll be on the Verde Valley railroad on the 12th. Ginny's birthday adventure.

Mike

Danr55 11-04-2011 05:08 PM

OK Mikie, you are excused. I was just reminded that I will be in Morenci on the 12th so I guess it will either be a week later, or I'll miss it too.

mikiec 11-04-2011 06:57 PM

I'm up for something on the 19th. Tortilla or ?

Danr55 11-04-2011 08:13 PM

The 19th works, but I still like the idea of throwing a challenge to John. We could meet in Florence for a good Mexican breakfast and then go from there. Tortilla FLats will be cold by then unless the weather heats up again as will Payson and Pine. We could to a run up Don's favorite mountain.

dave from mesa 11-04-2011 09:10 PM

No for us on both dates. We be in Palm Springs from the 11th. Damn I'm missing out on the warmer of the cooler times. Hate the cold.

Karl Bebout 11-05-2011 11:32 AM

I haven't heard so many excuses since....well I don't know when. Geeeeesus! If my ole ho was ready, we'd be out every chance we could.

Fitz 11-05-2011 03:38 PM

We should go down to Tubac Golf Course; spend the night there sometime or drive down and do wine tasting to the Sonoita area; or up to Greer sometime. I still like finding a cheap, cheap track some place we can turn them lose for few seconds. Most of us are getting too old to or want to do the Firebird thing spending $$. I guess the insurance requirements make it that way..

Maybe we could drive around the parking lot at the XMAS party or Donuts in the parking circle outside the entrance.....like yellow car and green car boys did few years back before the police showed up.

Karl Bebout 11-05-2011 03:56 PM

My sweetie and I stayed at a hotel outside Sonita and it was just fine. The funny part was that they included a bottle of wine with the room, but it was California wine. Go figure. Seems that the woman that either owns the hotel or built it, was one of the owners of the race horse Secretariat. The scenery down there was beautiful and I thought at the time, how nice it would have been to have had the Cobra on the gently hilly, curvy roads.

Danr55 11-05-2011 04:17 PM

Sonoita might be fun, but Greer would be really cold sleeping outside on the burnt ground. That last fire took everything Fitz. As for curvy roads, we found out last time we were at John's that the Park Link road between the Florence Hwy and I 10 is a great drive. Might not be a bad follow up to breakfast in Florence.

Fitz 11-06-2011 09:11 PM

Greer itself was missed but areas around got hit. I have a connection, maybe in the spring for the Hassienda sleeps 10 plus sheep for Bob :3DSMILE:and Karl.

John-Tucson 11-06-2011 10:41 PM

Hi guys, I will not be able to do anything on the 19th / 20th weekend. I can try to get the Tucson guys to attend a breakfast in San Manuel or Florence if you'd like. If you want twisty roads we have a road that is 23 miles in length, we drive it three or four times a year. The problem that we have had with you guys is that it is a 2 1/2 hr. drive for you just to get down to our starting point. I can guarrentee that most of you won't be able to keep up with us on the drive. On the return from the drive we have a road that 100 + is the norm. Anytime you guys want to do this drive please let us know. As for Peterh, I'd suggest that you meet some of the Phoenix Cobra guys before you say that they don't do any drives. It seems to be a brash statement from a rookie. Danr55, the Sonita area is COLD this time of year. Fitz, the Tubac area is very nice for a day trip. Not a whole lot there (except golf) for the guys - lots of trinkets for the ladies. If we down here can help put on an event for everyone please let us know.
