Drag Racing Results
Well, gang, I took the big step and went drag racing for the first time in my looong life. Tech passed me without a hitch. Told me 11.99 sec was the cut off for fire retardant jacket and roll cage. Told me I was required to have fun and wear a helmet. Local track. Dozens of cars. Lots of rice burners. After red-lighting my first try I settled down to 8 runs best of which was 12.60 at 116mph. Big crowd pleaser, lots of questions like "is it real". Couldn't get traction in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear. Some scarry times in 3rd when tires break loose and start bouncing. Got my reaction time down to .544 best (.500 is perfect).
The guys in the know said I could pick up perhaps a second and 15mph with tires that stick (slicks). Afraid I would break something. It was so much fun after the first anxious run I can't wait to do it again.
There were only a couple cars with better times and 2 cycles. Noone wanted to race me so all my runs were alone. Got many comments about sound especially when the tires catch at higher rpm. Sounds different with helmet on. Need Shift light. Can't take eyes off track during run.
I had to change my oil today because of the drag runs. Is this normal? Oil was clean before. Running Rich? Also I was amazed at how hard you have to stand on the brakes at the end of your run to catch the turn off. All this for $15. Next month the road track!
