And leave a large tip at the Lodge restaurant lunch: Hannagan Meadow Lodge - Lodge rooms and Cabin rentals. Ski, hike, fish and relax in Arizona

Glen Morangie, Abalour, Glen Fiddich, Glen Goyne are all passable. The older the better.

Very nice

Dan is old school, an original. I like Macallan 18 and John Walker Blue, with an AVO XO stogie. Voted best Happy Hour this side of Apache Junction**)

John-Tucson 06-20-2012 09:37 PM

I'm in. Are you considering a new route or the same as last year ?

Danr55 06-21-2012 02:21 AM

John, I don't know that there is another route, unless we run the opposite direction. Any suggestions are always welcome.

Dale 06-25-2012 11:41 PM

Yes. my wife and I will probably participate. We love this run.

We've always done this run clockwise up through the Salt River Canyon (meeting southern AZ folks at Florence Junction and northern folks in Show Low or at Mama Bear's in Lakeside for brunch). We stay overnight at Hannagan Meadow - car geeks and gals taking over the lodge and resort.

Danr55 06-26-2012 05:26 AM

Dale, we've only done it once, but chose to run it in reverse of your course. Through Superior (breakfast with the Tucson folks) Globe-Miami, Safford, Morenci, Hanningan Meadow for lunch then on to Springerville for the nite. The fun part being the drive up the south end of the White Mountains and the road course between Morenci and Springerville. We've not had anyone from the north country join in.

John-Tucson 06-28-2012 09:47 PM

Hey Dan, How about a new route, Meeting for breakfast in Superior, then via #60 to Globe, north on #88 to #288 then follow that to Young and north to #260 to Heber and #377 to Holbrook. I have not been that way before and don't know what the roads or driving conditions are like, nor how long it would take. From Holbrook perhaps #180 down to Concho and #277 to Snowflake and either south to Show Low or west to Payson and home.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 06-29-2012 12:02 AM

I've been on 188 but never 288. Good road but 60 north from Globe is the route you want for excitement if you haven't been on it. I have driven route 73 from 60 to 260 too and is only so-so. 377 to Holbrook is boring, as is 180 down to Springerville. We took 77 and 277 once before when Karl had an off road experience. Not much there. The original route up the Devil's Highway was a nice length and stops were well planned. As was the ride home on Sunday. Saturday is long though.

John, Does your Cobra do off road? Mine does not. Very little ground clearance. I don't think I'll be going to Young anytime soon. 288 from Young to 260 is all dirt and rocks. I don't think there is any pavement left on it. Not for me.

John-Tucson 06-29-2012 07:54 PM

Bob & Dan, thanks for the input. I don't like to drive a route twice, thus the suggested new route. How about out of Wickenburg via back roads to Paulden and Williams ? There has to be a lot of Arizona that we haven't seen.

Karl Bebout 06-29-2012 10:21 PM

Offroading is very stimulating. Besides, these things are supposed to be sports cars. I just did a little hydroplaneing up there and managed to miss the larger trees and road sign posts. Just doing my bit for deserrt beautification, whenever I can.

288 becomes dirt/gravel shortly before Rose Creek. It'll shake every bolt loose before you reach 260.

Danr55 08-02-2012 07:11 AM

OK guys, how about the weekend of September 15-16 for this run? Who's interested?

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 08-02-2012 08:29 AM

I'm interested....again.

288 is unpaved most of the way, from about a mile south of Rose Creek to AZ-260, except for a couple of brief stretches from Workman Creek to Reynolds Creek and through Young. Even the paved sections tend to be pretty dirty - a real paint chipping hell.
