weekender in Winslow
At Rt. 66 there was some talk about an overnighter at the La Posada Hotel in Winslow Az. Seems they have a 4 star restaruant with an excellent selection of libations. I've checked on line and the prices run from $135 to $169 a night. I'm just checking to see if there is any interest other than the folks who were in Kingman. It would be a nice ride either up through Payson or even up the Coronado trail and then spend the night in Winslow and run home on Sunday.

I'm not sure. Right now the 10 day forecast for Winslow shows a hi getting up to 88 and a low of around 41. Most highs are in the high 70's. Looks like there is about 10 degrees difference.

That's a beautiful restoration. However, the idea of sleeping next to the tracks (in La Posada) seems like a noisy proposition. Has anyone actually stayed there that can comment on the clickety clack and trains horns?

We have stayed there and the trains run 24/7. It is a beautiful hotel and historic but the trains are constant noise.

It depends on trains make noise or music....listening to trains run by is a lullaby to some and noise to others. If nothing else eat in the restaurant, its worth the trip, the chef is from LA and puts out 4 and 5 star food. The hotel is fascinating along with the rest of the building, the Last Great Railroad Hotel built in 1929 by the Santa Fe Railway for the Fred Harvey Company by architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, her Southwest masterpiece and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It one hell of a train station.

There was one 7 years ago. A flat bed Ford is parked on a corner across the street from a tourist trinket shop in downtown Winslow that pumps out the song " Take it easy " by the Eagles into the intersection for all to hear. A popular place for pics.:MECOOL:

That's a great song but would you want to hear it over and over and over and over???
Saw a photo of "the corner" and there was a well done mural on a building wall that did justice to the whole idea. Gotta be Winslow's claim to fame.
