Default Gotta Be Kidding

I took my car to a Discount Tire to have my front tires re-balanced today. The very nice, perky young man that was, oh so willing, to help me really had me scratching my hairless head. When we went out for him to see that my tires were worth checking, I told him it was a Cobra replica so when we got out there, he went to the very nice '67 Camaro convertible parked next to me. I patiently 'splained to him that what he was looking at was a Camaro and that my car, next to it was a Cobra. Christ ona Crutch! SHEEEEEESH!

Austin Healy.. Did you all know that the Cobra started with the Austin Healy? You didn't, well you need to get "KNOWED UP" on that.

Well, almost:

"What if? What if a Texan racer didn’t convince AC to sell him lightweight sports cars and Ford to sell him engines to power them? It almost happened, you know. At stake wasn’t whether AC and Ford would grant Carroll Shelby his request as much as whether he would’ve had to appeal to them in the first place. You see, if he had his first wish granted the legendary Anglo-American hybrid he created would’ve looked a lot like this, a Chevy-powered Austin Healey. That’s right, Cobra fans, the Ford-powered AC was Shelby’s Plan B."

Just be happy he did not go to the Honda Civic with the fart pipe and 22 inch wheels.

I overheard a father at a car show explain to his son that my car was an older Jaguar.

In a parade once, and I heard a bystander say he wasn't sure, but he thought it was a Cougar.

A Cougar?

Sheesh, indeed!

"53 Corvette" Took the Cobra to Isla Mirada at Bass Pro, for fish one night. Went out to the car to get my reading glasses and found a man with his teenage son and daughter looking at the car. As I approached the car, he explained that he really liked the old corvettes and was telling his kids about them. He then asked what year my old Corvette was. I calmly explained that it was a 1953, to which he commented that "those are really rare". I smiled and walked back inside.

Yup, all great stories. Mine has been called Jaguar, Corvette and Porsche but the comment was always accompanied with "nice or beautiful or sweet" so at least it was admired by non-car people too. What a great life experience these cars are. We have been so fortunate to have one. Our grandkids may never have the chance.

Last year, I drove my Cobra to the Chevrolet dealership to schedule some work on my Z06. Some people came over to look at the Cobra and asked what king of car it was!!!! Could not resist, told them it was the new 2014 Corvette!!!! They believed me, the guys at the dealership just shook their heads and we walked off laughing!!!!

I dread the day we have to convert them to electric when fuel gets banned.

My bad... Back, 8 years or so, while fueling my cobra, a guy came up and was doing the usual drooling. He asked what is it. I told him it was one of the new Saturn Sky's with the optional body kit. He was excited and said he was going to the dealer to see about getting one.

Obviously it's a generational thing. The other day a 30-sumthin' yr old man called mine an Austin-Healey and yesterday a sweet lady in her late '60s said, "What year is the Cobra?"

I just got my car on the road recently. Drove it today for the first time where I actually stopped somewhere other than a gas station. It was a Visionworks and went there to pick up new glasses. The storefront is glass and I could see everyone in the store looking at the car. By the time I got unbuckled and inside, they had all determined that it was a vintage Ferrari.

I believe the technical term is "fart can."

I still like the time I had my big block inside my garage and my close grade school friend was here with his sweet non-knowing wife. I took them out to see car (he drives a Z3). She said the car was cute! Told them to come over and see engine after I started it up. Had her stand by the exhaust. Fired it up and she wet her pants and spilled her drink all over herself! We laughed for 10 minutes....

I am really liking these two sardonic explanations!

They allow the brain dead to continue on in their fog laden reality further soiling their already tarnished image.
