CRAPOLA!
My wife and I will not be making it to the weekend's Cobra run. I'm really disappointed but when I tried to start my car, this afternoon, it wouldn't crank over. I eventually came to the realization that I've got a cylinder full of coolant. I checked the oil and it showed a couple inches too high, the expansion tank was empty, even after I'd added about 5 quarts to it a few days ago. I drained the oil pan and there was a small amount of water. The last time I drove the car, was coming home from the track after my wheel came off. It ran fine, but the temperature was fluctuating higher than normal. No smoke, no missing, I just figured I'd run the crap out of it and was probably low on water. ARGH! Youse All have a great time.

Scotchman 03-20-2015 09:45 AM

That's a Bummer Karl. There won't be anyone there to give me a hard time. In the future, stay away from On Ramps, and Race Tracks ! :JEKYLHYDE

Danr55 03-20-2015 10:17 AM

Scotty, don't worry about that. We can find a stand in for that part of the trip..
Gary, do I understand that you and Vicki are not making the trip with us from Wild Horse Pass?

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 03-20-2015 11:31 AM

Karl Bebout 03-20-2015 12:01 PM

BobB, you'll be getting real close to GOD'S COUNTRY, so be careful to not let the sect get you.

RedSnake351 03-20-2015 11:57 PM

Darn it, Karl, was looking forward to seeing you on this trip. I am really sorry for all the problems you've had with your cars. Hopefully it's only a head gasket and nothing more serious. Keep us informed.:(
At least you have a legitimate reason for not going, rather than being scared to go too close to the border.:o
Ralphie:MECOOL:

Thank You, Thank You, thank you, Rick and Kelli for all the hard work you did to make this event one of the best road trips I've ever been on.
The weather could not have been better, the back roads you picked were terrific, as were the the restaurants and resort in Rio Rico. and the points of interests including the Franklin Auto in Tucson, Xavier Mission, Tubac visit and the caverns.
My very favorite stop was the Phitzenmeier Garage with it's grand collection of open wheel racecars. Both were gracious hosts, with Jan serving up refreshments and snacks and Larry showing his prized processions of historic and famous racecars. It was my highlight of the trip.
While we were all standing outside listening to Larry, we were buzzed by a very low altitude fly-over which somewhat startled us, and we later learned it was our very own fly-boy jockey, Tucson John. We met up with John hours later at the Vail Dairy Queen, were he told us with usual grin, who the culprit was.
The new guy who bought John's car, Al with wife Patty, made instant friends with all the members when he took it on himself to buy all the ice-cream for us who, relieving John of having to shell out the pocket full of two-dollar bills. So, instead of calling him "the kid," we titled him "King Al.":)

John could not have picked a better person to sell his car to and to have him as a new member. And I like wife Patty, because she laughs at my dumb antics.:p
And to those who cold not make it, because you were scared or had other excuses, you missed one fine weekend.
I didn't plan on writing a book and will stop here so someone else can chime in with their comments.

Ralph :D

Danr55 03-23-2015 06:16 AM

For once, everything Ralph says is right on target. Our hosts did an.outstanding job. Thank you for the work and the hospitality.

Bob DLT 03-23-2015 01:13 PM

I agree. That was a tremendous trip...what a blast! Thanks for organizing it Rick!

hinoonaz 03-23-2015 02:04 PM

Ralph is right on about the weekend trip. Everyone was great to hang out with and tell stories. Even the Boy Scouts remembered how to start a fire and not cut them selves. Al and patty you are our new best friend! See you two on RT 66 run.

Karl Bebout 03-23-2015 02:37 PM

Ralphie, thanks for rubbing salt in my wounds from not making the trip. I am glad that everyone had a great time and there was no mention of any "good driving awards" so I guess the usual reprobates must have behaved themselves. Found the culprit of my troubles is nothing more than some poor workmanship in the installation of my intake gaskets. I have a crate engine from some supposed NASCAR engine builder back East, who's no longer in business. duh. Pulled the heads, fearing the worse but now, I just need to do some clean up and bolt stuff back together after my gaskets arrive. Oh well, stuff happens.

Danr55 03-23-2015 04:48 PM

Karl, That's great news.. you should be back in time for the picnic and Rt 66.
