5 and Diner shutting down

Say it aint so... After gathering here on Tuesday nights the diner is shutting down, I believe July 5th or 7th.

Where are you guys going to go now?

Maricopa 06-25-2015 08:31 AM

It was all those free sodas I tell ya!

DWRAT 06-25-2015 10:02 AM

I vote for Freedy's on bell & 51 Ave.

Tuesday Restaurant Choices

Us regular Tuesday night attendees promised our waitress we would not release the closing information to anyone until after this weekend and all the employees were told.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, I have been seeking alternate locations and input from the people this will affect. Dan Ratti, I love ya but you never join us anyway.
Here is the current list for consideration:

Freddy’s 7670 W Bell or 4929 W Bell

5 Brothers, Paradise Bakery & Witch Witch 7635 W Bell all same building and parking lot.

Culvers 83 Ave Deer Valley not completely built yet.

Sonic 8352 W Union Hills Dr

Rubios & Coffee Bean 7407 W Bell Rd same building and parking lot

Streets of New York 6740 W Deer Valley Rd

Dairy Queen 6768 W Deer Valley Rd

Paradise Bakery 20199 N 67th Ave

Fuddruckers 7704 W Bell – no outside seating

Red Robin 16233 N 83rd Ave – no outside seating

Cracker Barrel 16845 N 84th Ave – no outside seating

Hooters 16550 N 83rd Ave – no outside seating

Rock Bottom 7640 W Bell - no outside seating

I have visited all of these. For myself, I am happy with any of them but we could use some input.

Some place with inside parking?

mikiec 06-25-2015 11:03 AM

If I had any say in this, which I don't, It would be someplace where we could see the cars and outside seating.

DWRAT 06-25-2015 11:09 AM

If it wasn't so damn far away I would show up.
I vote for Freddy's at 4929 w Bell.

Anyplace just so the drive isn't too much longer. Should have inside and outside seating (Sonic only outside). Your choice. I was always partial to the Vienna Inn in VA. but it does get rowdy with the DC Club guys.

This coming Tuesday, June 30th will be our last night at the 5 N Diner. Come join us for a big sendoff event.

Here is another suggestion

Native Grill and Wings, 7322 W Bell Rd.

We tried this place and didn't like the high chairs. But am willing to try again.

Dan, according to Google Maps, you live 7 miles from the Diner. Long Way?

Maricopa 06-25-2015 01:21 PM

I'd come more often but the 'Sun City' dinner time makes shutting down the shop and getting to the West side a huge PITA due to traffic. The best I can do is get there late.

Inside seating is preferable, I've seen my car before and it's 1.21 jillion degrees this time of year.

mikiec 06-25-2015 02:15 PM

Isn't the Native Grill anti-2nd amendment?

Mike, being able to watch over the cars to make sure no one is messin with them was a Priority.

mikiec 06-25-2015 02:17 PM

The sad part about this, besides the loss of jobs, is that the diner was a perfect place to meet. There were a few times we moved and we always went back.

Maricopa 06-25-2015 02:32 PM

I get it but honestly I use mine for errands all the time and in 8 years have yet to even have a hat or pair of sunglasses stolen out of it. Got a door ding once and a saw a lady drag her purse across the rear fender but I can't see somebody messing with a line of 'em. We've had plenty of runs where they sat unmolested outside during meals.

Bottom line is I'm just too much of a pu$$y to sit outside after being out here in it all day.

Karl Bebout 06-25-2015 02:50 PM

If it were oh, 50 or 60 miles closer, some of God's Chillen from East Bumbscrew would attend. OR, is that the reason it is so far away???

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 06-25-2015 03:03 PM

Can't fool you Karl.

My wife-Carol is spending a few weeks with family in Wisconsin and found out about this yesterday when a friend called her. She's a little upset seems how she started working there when they opened 19 years ago. Kind of a vacation spoiler for her.

Kind of a career spoiler. That's sad.
