Another Tire thread
I've got P235/60R15's on the front, and P295/50R15's on the rear of my Cobra, Goodyear GT II's. They are 8-10 years old but still have great tread. I want a stickier tire, bad a$$ looking, and not expensive. Was it the Mickey Thompson's you guys recommended ?
|
Yes the MT SR tires are sticky and have a cool flame design tread.
About $200 per tire. I love mine. However, there not good in the wet. Also they use a different size rating. You will most likely want 26-10-15 front 26-12-15 rear |
I currently have the MT SR's and really like for being sticky. They are now 8 years old and getting a little hard. I just purchased MT ST's. They are better in the rain and we are going for a two month trip east and of course rain. Same size you have. If I want a sticky tire for racing I will get some steel rims in 17" and tires. Cooper Cobra tires are less and I think the same compound as ST's. I just wanted MT's is all.

Scotty...I use Nitto NT01's on the track, If you want sticky you will love these tires and less that MT's. Bridgestone Potenza's for the street but not sure if they come in 15".

Thanks guys. I'm ordering the MT Sportsman ST's from Discount Tire.

You just pay a few cents more for the MT name on the side.... |
Karlos was nice enough to call and straighten me out. I changed the order to the Cooper Cobras, black side out, at $300 less. Scotch money !!
|
Like most of us said, the same tire Cobra/st's. I only paid 80 more for a set of st's than Cooper Cobras. I just wanted mt's I don't drink as much scotch as I use to, beer either dang it all.

The guys at Discount Tire said that a burnout was required of any Cobra getting new tires. I lit 'em up right in front of the stalls. Loud ! Boring pics of naked Cobra included.
|
I can't remember what was on your Cobra. How is the hook up on new tires?
Gary |
Felt OK on the way home. They were a little slippery when I did the burn out ! Lit 'em right up. ;)
|
The ST's/Cooper Cobras are not a sticky tire.
The SR's are sticky. Big difference. |

I just can't get on board with the squiggly-line tread pattern. I guess I'm too much of a traditionalist. |
I know, the squiggly line issue. Only one problem , the SR's do hook up! Currently I have the perception the SR's are 8 years old and getting hard. Could be my imagination. Hope I am not disappointed with the st's.

Scotty, check the air pressure in your new tires. Don't know about the shop that installed them but some places inflate to the maximum shown on the tire. I run 24#F, 26#R on my 10 and 12x26x15 SRs.
|
I run the same pressure on my Fred Flintstone tires.

Dan,
After considering some of our club trips we have done in the past, I decided to get a tire that would be safer in the rain. Plenty of hook up, if I'm not at the track. Thanks for your input. :MECOOL: Karl, I've been running 23#'s in fronts, and 26 #'s in the rears, for a more comfortable ride. |
Scotty, didja check to see what the installer put in? "Trust and verify" R.R.

Cooper
If anyone else is looking at the Cooper Cobra's, Discount sells a lot of tires on eBay. I just ordered 295-50-15 and 245-60's The total with tax was $550.17 before a mail in rebate for 75.00 good through tomorrow. Switching from the BFG's although very old I've never had an issue with them.
