Here we go...Finally, I can put all my superstitions to rest.

On Saturday the 24th, I loaded my green car into Dan Ratti's trailer (Thanks again, Dan!) and set out for St Louis Missouri...

I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Part two... The voyage home (Which finally reached my house this morning at about 10:30am - I am VERY tired **)- 50 hours, and 2900 miles of driving, over 3-1/2 days requires LOTs of coffee )

cobrakiwi 09-27-2016 01:22 PM

Congrats, that's a road trip, for sure!
Fun times ahead:)

moore_rb 09-27-2016 01:25 PM

Ok, about the car:

Unique Motorcars, 289 USRRC-style (no truck bumps, no bungee cord) <-- This was how I knew that this was the car for me- I Always loved/wanted a wide-fendered 289 style car, but was never a fan of the trunk bumps.

2400 miles.

4 very old, very hard tires (I've already called the tire store and have that situation in the works.)

Built 289 (Edelbrock PerformerRPM Heads, cam, and intake)
Toploader 4 speed
Jag independent rear with 3.42's (which means I'll still be able to cruise 70-75, maybe not 80... %/ )
QA adjustable coil-overs up front

** T5's are cheap - I might be doing some tranny-swapping, as soon as the checkbook stops stinging from the agony of 10 tanks of diesel being purchased over the past 4 days.

Wilwood brakes at all four corners

"Wineglass" style replica wheels from PS Vintagewheels (yes, 5-lug. I still prefer lug nuts to knock-offs)

and, Just for Karlos:
  • no fuel injection
  • no cup holders
  • no A/C
  • no power brakes
  • no power steering
  • no radio

... Nothing left to tease me about now, Karl; except my bald head (and it takes one, to know one... :p:p:p)

I only have one reservation about the car so far- The exhaust is too tame (read: quiet)....However, that's nothing an afternoon with a cutoff wheel, a welder, and some black barbeque paint can't fix....:cool::cool:

I'll post more pics after I get some rest from this whirlwind trip... :JEKYLHYDE

Congratulations! I love the color.

That's a really nice looking cobra Robert. I agree about the 5 speed and louder pipes but it also needs more hp and white stripes. LOL.

HEY! maybe I should put Arizona Beige stripes on it (that's the color on my truck's rocker panels).... Then they would REALLY match !!!

But, then again.... No, probably not.

What can I say? I'm just not a stripes kinda guy. ;)

Can't deny the 289....
Add mods pic etc when you get on it.....

hinoonaz 09-27-2016 03:23 PM

That is what you have wanted all along Robert. Looks great. Tires for sure, old is no good. Who cares how sticky. Look forward to seeing. Karl will have to pick on someone else, hopefully not me. Gary

I have bolt-on wheels with spinners and didn't like the look of the chrome lug nuts. I tracked down a set of black silicone lug nut covers - they slip on and off easily but don't fall off on their own - and they do a fine job of making the lug nuts less visible to the casual observer.
