Low in Phx is supposed to be 60F and high in Payson 66F and sunny so should be perfect.

Scotchman 11-06-2016 08:12 PM

OK , now I'm bummed I can't do both. Why is life so tough ?

Karl Bebout 11-06-2016 09:46 PM

"OK , now I'm bummed I can't do both. Why is life so tough ?"

WTF? You don't "WANNA DRIVE"?

I'm not sure I'm going on the Bisbee run.

My car left my daughter and me stranded at the taco shop near my house this past Saturday night after a 40 mile drive (normal crank and fuel, but no spark), and I ended up having to call Hagerty for a tow home. On Sunday morning, after sitting overnight, it fired right back up.

My ohmmeter says the coil is suspicious, and my #3 plug wire gave me some weird, inconsistent resistance readings too... So I'm going to swap the coil and plug wires and cross my fingers.

But part of me still harbors a nagging suspicion that the controller in my MSD 8352 distributor might also have been a factor (I've got a post out on the MSD troubleshooting forum- we'll see what they have to say.)

So, if I do get it back up and running again this week, a half day turnaround trip to Payson might be a better idea to shake it out, instead of a 500+ mile, full weekend trip.

We'll see...

I now carry a extra coil with me, back in 2009 I was also stuck on the side of the 101 with the wife.
Thankfully and good friend helped me out and brought out every electrical item that it could be and it was the coil.
Thanks again Jeff Classic.

I had this distributor go bad on me. I don't think all of that heat is a happy place for the electronics inside. I ended up converting it to a separate controller and putting just a pick up in the distributor. Just a thought.

moore_rb 11-08-2016 08:36 AM

You're not the only one, Bruce- I found many online posts, in several different forums about guys having issues with this distributor...

It might be going onto the scrap pile.

I think I can....

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.....

Where are we eatin? Alfonso's? El Rancho?

Phx Mike 11-11-2016 07:51 PM

Dan's gig so he can make the call....or we can decide in the am!

DWRAT 11-11-2016 08:13 PM

I'm game for anywhere but if all else fails there's always the Payson airport.

Lets decide in the AM.

DWRAT 11-12-2016 03:17 PM

We had a nice ride today.
Mike, Jim, Robert and myself all met at the Shell station and headed out to the airport for lunch.
About 10 minutes after arriving we had a straggle show up, Mr Mike Foss and his wife.
He was waiting for at at the Shell station, but it was the wrong Shell station.:LOL::LOL:

I hope everyone made it home well, I seen Robert trying to catch up with Jim and myself but once we seen him we stepped it up a bit more.
He never caught up.:LOL::LOL::LOL:

moore_rb 11-12-2016 03:58 PM

I'm not supposed to be able to catch you guys on straight roads, but I did notice that the ground I did make up was in the twisties...

I just didn't want to leave Captain Windex too far back. :p Although, I finally got to see Mike open that 482 up and do its thing pulling away from the stop light at the Casino...Very impressive.

Great day. Very pleased with how well the car ran after fussing with it for the past week, and we ran them pretty hard today. Scotchman would have been proud.

I think I am going to be following Karl's lead and installing a GPS speedo. I think the drive gear in mine is munched. My speedo acted goofy all day, and it has a brand new driven gear in it.

Phx Mike 11-12-2016 04:58 PM

It was a nice ride. Roberts car looked, sounded and appreared to handle nicely. I had my speedo calibrated and can attest we were moving pretty good.

Scotchman 11-13-2016 02:31 PM

I am proud of you guys. Today, outside of Patagonia, which is the Napa Valley of Arizona, Ralph, Karl and I blew through a speed trap while passing slower cars. You know the feeling when your heart sinks ?? He never pulled out to get us !! :MECOOL:
