It was great meeting most of you guys out there yesterday. Awesome turnout and it ended up being a really nice day!
|
I'm thinking I must have seen at least 10-15 Cobras I'd not seen before. Heck of a turnout, even surpassed Fountain Hills, but then, it was free.
NNiets, When I texted you, the last I'd heard was Punkin Center but when we got to that turnoff, I found I had been overruled. I even went down the road a bit to see if you were there waiting. Oh well, you had a better ride than we did. Come back through Globe? |
Just got a question for you guys. In a couple of the photos there appears to be a Kirkham with a V-12. Any info about that car ? What motor is that ?
Just curious Ted |

I didn't get a confirmation from the owner, but I think that it was a custom Falconer V12 he had in there (one of the other guys can correct me if I'm wrong about that). I did overhear the owner say he had more into the engine than he had in the rest of the car. but, as far as eye-candy goes, it was pretty hard to top that one. PhxMike's polished Kirkham was straight across it (nose to nose) and Mike's awesome aluminum Pond 482 FE was reduced to "just another V8" status... **) |
I didn't hear a name, but I believe he said it was custom built for an off shore racer. This is one of twenty built and he has another one in his shop.

Torque Engineering Corp. built 20 of these all aluminum engines between 1999 and 2002. The one in the Cobra was detuned down from 1200hp to only 1000hp to make it streetable. And yes, the man does have a spare, just in case...BTW, the engine weighs 1000#s. Maybe not so good for the track?

V-12
Thanks for the replies gentlemen.
Well I did a little Googling on Torque Engineering. They're no longer in business, but there is some pretty good info on the internet, including one Youtube dyno run. Pretty impressive engines. That gentleman with the Kirkham certainly must have an excess of disposable income  Ted |
Jeff is the owner but I dont know his last name or if he has a handle on this forum. What Dan, Karl and Robert said is all consistent with what I know too. Engine makes over 900 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm. As noted the engine was designed for offshore racing boat use. When running it sounded like a smaller Merlin V-12 minus the supercharger.
|
I was told the owner had his V12 motor delivered to the Kirkham factory and asked Dave to "build a car around it."
Not confirmed. Cool 6 exhaust pipes coming out each side. AZ Bob |

Gotta think Kirkhams really beefed up the frame and suspension to handle the extreme torque and the 1000# engine weight. I forgot to ask the guy what transmission he has but did notice he had floor mounted pedals.

Very impressive and unique. Thanks for posting the photos.

Hi,
I would like to make an introduction, I am Jeff the Guy with the V12 Kirkham. Thanks for the interest in the project that is some 6 years in the making. Started in May of 2011 and loaded it up, not under power, at Dave's shop in October 2016. First ran under power in January 2017. There are some in process photos of the project on the Kirkham website and here at: Kirkham's forum under Kirkham Motorsports Tour August 2016. I would post photos but have not figured how to do it yet, this is my first post. Hope to meet a lot of the AZ club members in the future. Best, |
Welcome AZCobra12. You have a remarkable cobra. Let us know more about you, like your name. Plus you can get on our email list by sending your name, address, CC ID, shirt size, email address, phone etc to likenu2@cox.net.

Welcome Jeff. Certainly glad to have you interested in our gang of ragtag miscreants. I think the CC forum has a policy of preventing a FNG from posting pictures until they have submitted a few posts.
Here's a few things about the Arizona Cobras: Rule #1. There are no rules. No officers No meetings No dues No Whining (although it seems to be difficult for some people to refrain from sniveling). A thin skin will soon be discovered and exploited! |
