Go for it. Sounds like a great plan.

Phx Mike 10-18-2017 03:10 PM

I need everyone to weigh in here team. Sounds like support from Bob and Dan. I would like to get back to Sunshine Acres no later than next week and let them know we will/will not do this. Assume for now that it is on 13-Jan and donations would be items 75.00 or less (similar to cost of a wagon) and would be clothing, school supplies, and other easily purchased items (I will get a list if we decide to go fwd). The kids are mostly age 6-19.

Mike, I posted your request for any objections on our FB site.

Mike, I think given the fact that the Concours in the Hills this year is to benefit PCH, we can proceed with plans to support Sunshine Acres without further consideration. If anyone disagrees, please bring up the question. Otherwise let's move to the planning.

Phx Mike 10-22-2017 02:52 PM

I am going to contact the Sunshine Acres folks on Monday 23-Oct and let them know we will bring donations on 13-January. I will get details from them next week on what they need donations-wise and timing for our visit on the 13th.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 10-22-2017 04:42 PM

Mike, at the No Fly Zone today, we occupied Ron & Pam's Easy-up with their daughter who volunteers at Sunshne Acres. I asked her about what items the residents could use and she said that upon request the management would provide a list for us to follow to collect in December for January delivery. Apparently they have had this kind of request previously.

Indeed. I have been in touch with their director of donations. I will get their list this week and send it out. They are going to be very excited to have us help them.

Team I have been in touch with the Sunshine Acres folks and they have provided a list of donation items they need. I will post the list later today when I can get online from my computer

Thanks for all your efforts Mike.

Okay team -

I have connected with Kimberly Raibourne and Linda Mullins at Sunshine Acres Children’s Home in Mesa. They are very excited to have our support and looking forward to the Arizona Cobras bringing their cars out to show the children on Saturday 13-January 2018.

Here are the specifics.

Event Date: 13-January, 2018 at 3:00 PM

Donation List: Sunshine Acres has asked us for the following – these are items they will be especially short on after the holidays:

1) Toiletry Items including the following
- Hand lotion
- Chap stick
- Liquid body wash
- Shaving products (they have older teens as well as younger children)
- Acne medications

2) Gift Cards: See the note below from the Sunshine Acres team:

- “Sunshine Acres uses fast food gift certificates/cards primarily for when a child has a doctor appointment, and it takes longer than planned to be seen. Sometime it takes 2-3 hours to get in after you arrive at the doctor’s office, and then another 40 minutes for the doctor to actually come in and do the examination. In cases like that, often the child has missed lunch at school and lunch at Sunshine Acres. If we can stop by McDonalds or another fast food restaurant and pick them up a quick lunch on the way back to school, it is a tremendous help. We are very, very low on these vital certificates. Here are the top “wish” stores on our list:

o McDonalds
o Churches Chicken
o Taco Bell
o Wendy’s
o Dairy Queen
o Subway
o Cold Stone Creamery
o Schlotzkys
o Burger King
o Sonic
o Arby’s
o Jack-in-the-Box
o ALL PIZZA PROVIDERS

3) Store Certificates - Such as, but not limited to

- Any Drug Store (such as Osco, Walgreen’s, CVS)
- Wal-Mart
- Target
- Foot Locker
- Big 5
- Kmart
- Toys-R-Us
- KB Toys
- Sports Authority
- Michael’s Craft Store

Movie Money/Passes:
- Harkins / AMC Theatres
- Show / Event Tickets

My recommendation is that everyone contribute what they can, preferably in line with what the wagon’s cost, and if we can get a good turnout (15+) it will make a big impact on these kids.

Thanks again for all your efforts Mike. Next, we will work on the Anniversary Party Flyer, place, time, pot luck and an email to all regarding donations. Most likely, either bring your donations on January 13th or to the Anniversary Party, December 2nd.

Everything they are looking for is small enough we won't need a truck to haul it. Those who can make the 13th can bring with them and those who can't can bring to the 12/2 gathering as you note.

Danr55 10-28-2017 06:06 PM

If it sounds like a good idea, I'll contact the owner of the Chevron station at Recker and McDowell and see if he is still ameanable to us using that as a gathering place for the show up.. if that is still the plan..

Sounds good. The Sunshine Acres folks asked us to be there at 3:00 so that gives us plenty of time to rendezvous at the Chevron there on Recker.

A suggestion: Keep an eye out for discounted gift cards on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. If you're willing to spend $100, you may be able to gift them with $200 in cards.

Sounds good to me. Thanks for all the work. Will follow for any updates.

Welllll, that doesn't mean he's worth a sh%%%t.

Danr55 10-30-2017 09:40 AM

If Sunshine Acres expects us there at 3:00, it would be a good idea to meet NLT 2:40 at the gas station.. Southeast corner of Recker and McDowell.

I will have mine at the xmas party. Other than hosting let me know if anything I need to bring or have ready. I have 2 smaller(5 ft) plastic tables but could use some more. for food. Do we want to just have everyone bring chairs as usual to eat? I have a couple of extra coolers plus a fridge and microwave there on site. Perhaps after cars and coffee if you want to stop buy I will be there as they are installing some neon signs that morning
