Oh, the pain, the degradation!

I forgot to mention Hill Climbing in my list of (skills?)

RatBoy....long time you've been gone. Glad you're back. Now, just get yourself another Cobra....

DWRAT 09-22-2020 01:12 PM

If I could find a Superformance that doesn't leak oil.

Karl Bebout 09-22-2020 01:52 PM

I have three cars that don't leak oil:
2007 Honda Pilot 175,000 miles
2013 BMW 328i 45,000 miles
2006 Corvette 43,000 miles (amazing!)

You'll be pretty hard pressed to find a Ford, or a Chevy, that doesn't leak oil. The SBF mini-motor in my Cobra does like to mark its territory.

Maybe you'll have to decide if you want something to drive or something to polish and be a trailer queen.

Me....I WANNA DRIVE!

DWRAT 09-22-2020 02:41 PM

I need a cobra with an LS, like your Corvette.

Danr55 09-22-2020 04:31 PM

How do you spell HERESY?

Karl Bebout 09-22-2020 05:13 PM

Can you even imagine the grief you'd catch with a Chevy engine in a Cobra.

Oh wait, I did get that for about 13 years...but nobody wanted to drag race against me....

Karl Bebout 09-23-2020 10:18 AM

ACCUWEATHER is forecasting 1-2% chance of rain in Springerville/Eager and Showlow for this coming Saturday and Sunday. VERY low 50°s in the mornings. NIPPLY, but better than some times. Bundle accordingly.

Scotchman 09-25-2020 07:27 PM

I'll be at the Waffle House at 7am. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Scotchman 09-27-2020 11:19 AM

Great Run boys. This morning we had a very spirited drive between Springerville and Showlow. I got out in front quite a bit, then Karl passed me doing a buck twenty. At the gas station in Showlow , Karl noticed his plate was gone. Hmmmm. :JEKYLHYDE

MKS427 09-27-2020 01:30 PM

Gary and Vicki, Bruce, Jim, and me and Lisa had breakfast a Sweethearts. Giant blueberry pancake for me. Jim and me had as spirited drive as Lisa would allow through the Salt River Canyon. Which is up there with Oak Creek Canyon and, of course the Coronado Trail.
Speaking of Oak Canyon, the leaves are changing. This would be a great time of the year for a post AM rush hour lunch run. Especially, if someone had a copilot to take pics. Lisa and I have Wed and Fri open. It would be about 5 1/2 hours Dove Valley and I-17, back to Dove Valley and I-17.

Karl Bebout 09-27-2020 01:36 PM

535 miles of good times for me, except for the terrible cramp in my right leg this morning! Darn leg just shot straight out and I couldn't pull it back. Regrettably, the gas pedad was right under my foot.
Honest officer!
Crappy luck losing the plate. The bolts were still tight, the plate just ripped off them. Wind turbulence?
It was custom made that had my current registration,"4WEBERS", but was in the 1964 colors. Now I'll have to go on line to find out where it had come from. Meantime, I'll haul out the current plate design and get a replacement sticker just to be on the up and up. I had concerns that law enforcement might take umbrage to not having a license plate but the two officers I drove by didn't notice, or care.
Otherwise, just an outstanding weekend of driving. Quite a few new faces and cars. Excellent turn out. Now I'm all warmed up for my trip to San Marcos TX in a couple weeks. I WANNA DRIVE!

da56panman 09-27-2020 03:46 PM

betty and i had a great time. very few scary moments. mileage was the most in a weekend so far, in the cobra. thanks to all who tolerated me
and, of course, thanks to karlos and lynn :p
by the way, scotty, i meant to ask about your folding chair, but got distracted. info please?

Scotchman 09-27-2020 04:09 PM

Steve,
It's a PICO. Got it online a while back. $99. Takes up minimal space for a comfortable folding chair.

Danr55 09-27-2020 05:14 PM

Coronado Trail 2020

What a weekend! 656 miles, many with my life flashing before my eyes. Specially when doing 80+ on that BUMPY Rte 78. My car has such stiff, lowered suspension, it was hard to control. I feared flying off the road. Too old for this. Hope the Coronado Trail people had better luck.
Started off with 16 cars and 22 people early Saturday morning in Apache Junction. Sure missed Dan and Adriana. Never did find out why they couldn’t make it. Tough to keep 16 cars together. Some new faces and cars. Lots of cobras. Phoenix Mike even came by to show us his new 918 Porcshe, Sweet. Mike says he is working on our charity for this year.

Next stop was Apache Gold Casino Station for normal pit stop, then the LONG, hot drive to Safford and pit stop number 2.
Karl took some of us on a high speed (100+) extra 20 mile trip to Duncan when he missed the Rte 191 turn off on 70 headed east. Another trip to Duncan with Karl! We must have an affinity for that place. We even brought a guest with us.

Lunch at Bear Wallow Café in Alpine. OK food and service. We caught them right before closing. That's a LONG drive to Alpine.

Short trip to Eager to the Best Western Sunrise Inn. Nice, reasonable place. Clean. All gathered for bench racing for several hours with booze and snacks. Then off to dinner.
Dinner at Safire Restaurant at big long table. No liquor there, surprise! Good thing Benny Stafford wasn't with us :).

Left Eager EARLY headed to Show Low for gas stop then our group split up to go west and south. I couldn’t stay up again and waved at some cars in Payson but then drove on to Camp Verde to stop at my favorite place, the DQ.
I saw Karl’s license plate fly off about 10 miles out from Springerville while he was passing a car in front of me. Saw it fly up and out into the field to the north. Thought it was cardboard.
Trip home had us pass 2 different dead deer partially on the road on 260. I presume that wasn’t us.
Trip down I-17 was slow and crowded due to multiple car accident north of 169 turn off. Home at 12:30pm sharp.
Saw some fantastic cars. That Blown, black Mustang was interesting and that black Pantera was to die for, but a bit so loud. Lots of fun with great people. I guess now a days, I’m the oldest person among us. I wish I could have taken the cobra but age speaks to me. I even had leg cramps in the Mustang.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 09-28-2020 08:16 AM

I also wanted to thank Mark Schwarz for arranging and promoting our Saturday dinner, to Scott Siggins for the motel plan, to Karl Bebout for forcing me to pump adrenalin, and to Dan Shinn who started this run with just 3 cars back in the day. Thanks to Dr Bruce for showing me how a Mustang should be driven, to Bruce Bosley for bringing JoAnn’s cookies, to Keith Barngrover who seems to be everywhere at once, To Juan & Boys, to Gary & Vicki, and many more old timers like me. By the way, Jim Cook does make for a good roomate. Likes it cold and makes no noise.
16 cars is to too many to control as a unit, so breakup is predictable. No mechanical problems caused us to slow us down, and I’m sure there were varied routes home. Thanks again to Mark & Lisa for my dinner Saturday (when it finally arrived.) Mark, I decided in Camp Verde to just aim it home instead of north. Glad I did. I needed a nap.
Next big event is the Anniversary Party at Ron & Pam Evans Shop on Saturday, December 5th, 10am-2pm.

AZ Bob

Scotchman 09-28-2020 10:19 AM

Is Ron's new shop going to be open ? :D:D

Azhinoon 09-28-2020 11:18 AM

We did have a breakdown. Jesse (red and white stripe) turned around after getting gas at the casino gas station and limped home. He was maybe 10 miles down the road and had ignition problem or so he thought. So far two deaD cylinders on one side with zero compression. Head gasket for sure and head not O ringed for supercharger. Will update.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 09-28-2020 01:16 PM

Scott, no, Ron is still at same place. He said plan is to move into new place by end of 2021.
