Default Big Windshield Fun

I'm replacing my five year old "Polyglass" windshield from Cobra Valley. I've put almost 40K miles on it and it has a whole lotta sand pits from all the desert area driving I've done. I first tried to polish out the pits, starting with 600 grit sand paper and gradually reducing to 2000 grit and then a very mild compound followed buy intense polishing. Got rid of the pits but it was looking through a glass of water. Not Good! I ordered another windshield from Cobra Valley and it arrived last week. If you are not aware, C V instructs that these windshields should be installed using a Permatex Black Gorilla Snot RTV Adhesive. It does definitely hold the windshield in and makes it very strong. HOWEVER, getting to old windshield out was really a chore. Lots of cutting with a flexible snap off blade knife and then Randy at CV told me the trick of using an oscillating tool with a toothless, flexible blade and liquid soap. That finally really did the trick. THEN, cleaning the black snot out of the frame track began. Between a sharpened screwdriver and little wire wheels on a Dremel, and lots of scraping, she's nice and clean. All this sure seems like a lot of work but I know I would have had to replace at least three or four glass windshields in the time/mileage frame. Can't remember the last time I had so much fun
