We are going to have our annual anniversary party on December 2, at the Vault in Scottsdale. We've done this each year for at least a 12 years or 13 years or 15 years I've been running with this crowd. And each year we've had food everybody has contributed toys as well as contributing a location for the party. The last few years we've been very fortunate to have the party at Pam and Ron's. They have never asked for a penny even though they provided the taco truck for us each year as well as space for our Cars & Cans Food Drive - Benefitting United Food Bank . Bob Broberg has always seen that we have trophies, and he also has never asked for reimbursement. So this year we're going to take up a collection and we're going to ask the members to donate whatever they feel is right. I'll be taking gifts for the white elephant drawing passing out tickets and I'll have a coffee can for any donations the members feel like giving. So in addition to a new, packaged toy, a gift that is wrapped for each person who wishes to participate in the white elephant drawing, a big smile and a hearty appetite, can ask you to bring a little bit of cash and donate. The money will be distributed, by Bob Broberg, to the folks who have for years provided everything the club needed for the party and never ask for a dime.
This is at the request of our senior active member and good friend. Don't think it was my idea, although I've wondered about it for years. I know for a time the cash not used for awards on the Laughlin trip were applied to the party, we no longer make that trip so those funds now come out of private pockets. So don't be stingy! |
Thank you Dan for posting this. I've had 1 contributor (thank You Jeff) and Mark has purchased our gift this year to help me. Some will help offset part of our expenses and all of the remainder will go to Ron & Pam whether they want it or not. Perhaps give them shop funds or a dinner.

You are right Karl, no Food collection on top of Toys. I'm sure Dan means well and the Food Bank is worthy but, not this time.

Pam and I are honored to help out and dont ever expect anything in return. We love you guys and with still working all these years hasn’t given me as much time to spend with the group so I look forward to these. Not sure if the tree will be decorated in time but we are trying. Taco Truck is all ready, please bring a desert and chips/salsa dip etc to share. We have a done a food drive with a cars and coffee but didnt have a show in November, Love to fill up all the boxes of toys for the kids!
Goal this year is not to get lost with any of the marines giving rides :) |

Hello, Writing this for a hospital bed with pneumonia, asthma problem and a lung infection that will likely cause me to miss the party we host. Pam will be there in my place. Sorry to miss it but tree is decorated and boxes will be out for the toys.
Enjoy, take some pics for me and I will miss seeing you all but will be there in Spirit! |
