Default First the Licence Plate now the Door

Last weekend my licence plate bracket broke, lucky for me I didn't lose my plate while I was driving. This weekend my wife and I went to my bosses house in Prescott and I was show the car to a couple people and one of them asked "Do the doors open?" Why yes they do as I showed them. Well when we went to close the door it fell off the car. The weld broke where the hinge bracket meets the door. Talk about a windy ride home. Anyways, I wrap my door in a blanket and put in one of my friends car for the ride back.

Paul...

That's got to be a major bummer... I feel for you buddy.

Was it a cold weld that caused the problem??

Spanky.

Well, I have two working doors again. I took it out Gordon shop, and they had it done in 45 Min. Gordon thanks for getting it done so quickly.

Jason,

You might want to take your car down to Gordon and have him check the doors. I talked to him last night and he said he has done a few of the older cars that were in the serial number range of Pauls car. I think yours is in that range.

Falling doors, falling license plates, do we own a safe product?

Would not this be a product defect that Factory5 should look into or flip the bill for having the doors corrected? Liability wise if their welds are not holding and the door goes flying off and injures somebody or kills somebody I would think they have exposure.

Have they addressed this issue? This isn't the first time I heard about their doors flying off.

Yes, they have addressed the issue with the doors.

The license plate's thats the suppliers doing. FFR was not even aware of the problem until we had our plates fall off going to Knotts. Dave Smith was concerned about it.

Are they opting to have the old doors done right at their expense? I would think it would be cheaper to cover the re-welding of the old doors, rather than a serious lawsuit because one of their doors killed somebody when it flew off. I assure you if my door flies off and I am sued, I will 3rd party Factory Five in on the suit for breach of warranty. A reasonable person should expect their welds to hold under normal conditions. Regardless if Factory Five has a release of liability or what have you, they cannot pass their own negligence onto another.

So my question is have they taken steps to remedy the defect created by them, not just by making better doors but also correcting the old ones?

Don't know....You will have to call FFR for that answer.

Remember yours may not have the defect. That is why you need to get them checked.

Mike.

Easy Jason, It not that big of a deal. My door came off while I was closing it and it fell right into my hands, the latch didn't catch when the weld broke. It not that common or you would a lot more whinning about it. It's not really a design problem it more a welding problem in this case. As for the licence plate bracket it the original English design, I fix mine this last weekend, it's not going to leave the car without the rest of the trunk. I going to try to be at the 5 & Diner tonight.

If I get home in time and clean up the car I will be taking the car down. It still has bug crap all over it.

I will bring the camcorder, we got an hour of filming for the whole trip. We got some shots on the road of Mike, Bob, Stewart and Ginny. And Angelina shot some from the top of a hill looking down at the S's outside of Oatman with me driving the Cobra. Angelina has to stay home tonight because we are having someone come over to "possibly" buy one of our 7 cats.
