Run To The Pines Trip
Alright, all you Run-To-The-Pines Guys and Gals: Here's the setup for our adventure:
Friday, 10am, meet at the Texaco just after you exit the east end of the Superstition Freeway (Rte 60) toward Globe. We'll head up to Globe (about an hour) and stop at the last chance Texaco before heading north on Rte 60 through the Salt River Canyon. Great drive! We should arrive in Show Low in about 2 hours. Another 20 miles will get us to check-in at the Pine top golf course where the show is. Next is check-in at motels (various) and your choice of the parade from Show Low Walmart to Hon Dah casino (about 2 miles east of Show location). or just relax and meet at the Hon Dah Casino at 5pm for free barbeque dinner and entertainment (to a limited degree). The parking lot at the Casino (in the rear) will be filled with great cars. Gamble away for the evening or just bench race in the parking lot. Saturday set-up on the grass starts about 7am if you want a choice location together although, our class #12 has never been filled up. There will be lots of great cars, especially hot rods, lots of vendors, food, drinks, games, port-a-potties, etc. Show ends at 4pm and we are on our own for the evening. We'll think of something. Sunday, 8am set-up and 12noon end for trophy announcement. Takes about 2 hours due to long winded announcer. Next we head for Heber to Jim's barbeque probably closer to 3pm. Mr pink gave us directions. I have my copy. Finally: fight the traffic back to Phoenix through Payson and the Bee Line - DON'T SPEED - YOU'LL BE SORRY! Bring a jacket and car cover. Bob |
B&B
Bob,
We had a change in plans and are comming up Saturday morning (early) and leaving Sat night around 6~7 ish. I do not know if it is possable to save us a spot with the gang, but it sure would be nice if you could. Our sitter backed out on us, so we had to limit the trip to 1 day. Lots of driving! We are planning to leave around 4:00am so we should be there not long after 7:00am. Looking forward to seeing everybody! Keep it at the speed limit................................. Brian |
10-4 Brian. Been there years ago. You'll get there about the same time as we will. If you go up the canyon early in the morning before RVs are up and speed traps are set up you can do the whole canyon at double the posted speed limit. I have. Great road! Must slow for elk/deer at higher altitudes.
Here is my cell # in case of delay: (623)363-5269 Bob |
Can I get a head count on who's coming?
Jim |
Sorry
Jim,
Because of the deal posted above with the sitter, we will be unable to come over on Sunday, Sorry, but poo, poo happins, and it happined to us this trip............... We will see you at the Pines.. Take care, Brian |
Thanks for the reply Brian. Sorry you have to leave so soon. Give that sitter a bad reference. What time are you leaving Sat.? Are you going by way of Payson?
Jim |
Movin Out....
Jim,
We were thinking around 6~7ish, Barb wanted to go by way of Payson on the way back, and I want to go up the Salt River on the way up, What are you thinking? Brian |
Brian, we were thinking of having dinner at this place at Bison Ranch Sat. nite. It's about 30 miles west of Show Low, 3 miles east of Overgaard. Maybe we could meet up. We're leaving tomorrow morn. I'l have my cell 602-818-1570.
Jim |
Bison...............
We will talk on Saturday and see what our options are.......
Be safe, Watch out for the rain.......... Brian |
Jim, head counts ahead of time just never happen with Cobra owners. In all of our ventures we never know who is going to show up until it happens. This is the nature of the "free spirited" cobra owners. We work hard and play hard. Impulsive, spur of the moment decisions suit us.
I'll say this about myself: if weather threatens Sun AM I will head back to valley 6am ish. To avoid traffic. I love early morning drives. In past years the Run to the Pines participants leave on Sun AM. By end of Trophies there are only 2 or 3 of us left. Bob |
Jim, I wouldn't recommend eating at Bison Ranch. The service is terrible and the food isn't much better. June's on the corner of 260 and 277 is the best food in Heber / Overgaard.
Sean |
Sean, I own Bison Ranch. Just kidding. Will we see you Sat? Did you talk to your Bishop?
|
:) I'll be at the car show on Sat. and maybe I can join you criminals for dinner. I'll slip the Bishop a fiver and maybe I can make the BBQ on Sunday!
|
Any of you guys driving through the canyon in either direction -
Watch for rocks, boulders in the road. They get washed down after rains and are usually moved quickly but ya never know. Have a safe trip! I'll look for you Saturday. |
Sean,
I havent checked in here in awhile and didn't realize there is another Cobra person in Show Low. I have a buddy in Pinetop with a black and gold NAF. I am in Lakeside and have been here since 88. I'll look forward to meeting you at the show Saturday. |
Neal,
I was just getting ready to send you an email telling you about Sean and his backdraft. Now you really have to finish the Cheetah. Mike |
Mike,
I didnt get to meet Sean this weekend but Hershal did ok this event - ended up taking first place for his class. Congrats Hershal!! |
And yes, the Cheetah will be done this winter - no if's ands or buts about it.
 |
Neil;
E-mail me - I'ld like to take a look at your Cheetah. |
Neal,
You guys in Pinetop know how to put on a great show. This is one of the most enjoyable venues going. I will be a regular. There were soooo many neat cars there. I had my eye on Jim Boyle's 69 Boss Mustang, What a car ! Neal, it looks like the Cheetah will be a mystery to me for another year. It will most likely be done when I finally get to see it. Once again I had a little electrical problem with the brake light switch. This thing has been bugging me for three months trying to find the problem. Well Thanks to Jeff (Vettestr) and Chris, they were able to help me locate the problem. When it comes to electrical stuff, I ain't got a clue! Jeff called it after a few test light checks. Chris then took the time and drove me to the Checker auto parts. Checker didn't have the exact part we needed so we bought one and tried to make it work. I screwed it up by cutting off a little too much on the plunger. Chris then offered to go back and get another while I stayed behind for the awards ceremony. After the ceremony was over I headed back to the GT and there was Chis busy working away on my car. He had somehow managed to find a better switch than what I originally had and he made the fix a permenant one. Once again, I want you guys to know you're what it's all about, good people that bend over backards to help. Hersh:) |
