Track day

Had a good time. Like to thank Scott for stealing me a plug for my oil leak. And Brian's great comments to keep me out of the dirt. I also want to thank Stuart, Dave and Fitz for not killing me when they spun out!

mikiec 02-29-2004 10:11 AM

I was very pleased with the turn out for track day.

Everyone that was there and running had a blast. To bad I had to work in the AM or Jim would have had to watch out for another car spinning out..:3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: .

A special thanks goes to Jim B. for setting up this event. Thanks Jim.

Jim (MR PINK)-- I didn't put it all together that you were there. I didn't get out there until 1:30... So do the girl scout cookies make you faster?

:3DSMILE:

Ben

mrpink 02-29-2004 04:15 PM

Ben, you made the mistake of giving the cookies to my wife. I got an empty box!! I wasn't very fast. I saw Fitz fly past me and wished I had the balls to do that. Next turn, he was in the gravel facing the track!!

Fitz 02-29-2004 07:31 PM

It wasn't my fault. I wanted to go faster but the instructor jumped over in my seat as we were going around the corner; then told me to put the brakes on; We got all messed up because I was trying to turn down the rolling stones tape we had playing too loud!

I had so much fun driving that track! I don't think I have a transmission anymore but what a blast**)

John and Merrill,

Hey you guys...sorry we got split up...probably better for you anyway as I had a small "mechanical anomoly" just north of Casa Grande. Typical. A 50cent part ends up costing me a $250 tow. Anyway... had a great time and good seeing everyone again.

ItBites 03-01-2004 09:58 AM

Wow!

Looks like you guys had a great time and great turnout. My Cobra needs a little more TLC before I can attend these things, but hope to be out there soon (BTW, I am not a newbie or a nut, I used to drive my BBC Vette with ASRA a few years ago and have track time at Heartland Park and Brainerd in this Cobra as well - just to let youse know not to be too scared of a new driver).

How do I stay notified of these events?

LMK

Thanks and looking forward to track time again...

coyled 03-01-2004 10:25 AM

It was good to see everybody and the cobra's on the track. It is a fun technical track. Scott

Fitz 03-01-2004 10:34 AM

I went into the dirt just like the instructor guy told us to! Hee he Blah blah....

John-Tucson 03-01-2004 10:44 AM

Hey btsai, thanks for the nice picture of my car. THANKS to all of you for such a WONDERFUL 65th Birthday day. I was among those that spun out and of course I did it on the first lap without the instructor and with my son-in-law as a passenger. I'd completely forgotten EVERYTHING that the instructor had told me and did a rather nice 360 coming out of turn one. Let me tell you that I really felt that I was going the wrong way as I looked into the noses of the two Cobra that were behind me, or were they in front of me ? I did the NASCAR thingn and kept the power on and completed the 360 and drove off. My son-in-law has VERY big brown eyes now. John PS. Mike Foss, remember that if you follow the Phoenix guys you'll go to Phoenix. Sorry to hear about the problems.

JB34 03-01-2004 10:44 AM

I hope that you guys were able to learn some new things about your cars and especially hope that you all had fun. Hey Dave, I was talking with Will (chief driving instructor) when we saw you spin in turn 7. His comments; "Wow, double looper...impressive!"
Cecil Walker (offical track photographer) loves cobras and took a lot of shots. Look to his website in about a week for all the action. Larry told me that 6 guys, who couldn't make the event, called to set up a raincheck. Anybody up for doing this again?

mikiec 03-01-2004 10:55 AM

John, Mike followed us to the gas station. Then he was on his own.

Mikief.. Sorry to hear about the problem. I should have given you my phone number before you left.

JB34, Jim.. lots of great comments and many want to do it again. Dave told me he spun but not say it was a double. I hope he had his camera on.

Scott, as always great to see you again, and to watch a master on the track.

Mike

Fitz 03-01-2004 10:58 AM

Something to look forward to....."double looper". Count me in if I am not at the boat "relaxing". Anybody interested in a Kaw Jet Ski Ultra 150 with about $2000+ in engine work. Speedo says 83mph. We all know these things don't go that fast but a honest 73-75. Ask Gordon......he came flying off of it once. Very Very low hours on it. $5500 would get my attention. It will be 3 summers old. Arizona jet ski did all the work on it. (carbs, heads, water box, impeller plus plus)

BPWilliams 03-02-2004 06:44 AM

What a Blast!

Thanks go out to Jim B. for setting this up!!

Hey Jim thanks for the comments, I can tell you it is easier to be in the passenger seat than the drivers%/ Had a good time it was nice to see all the gang show up, and some new faces also. I hope to see you guys at the track again**) **) The track is the place to get out your "need for speed" it is the safest place to test your limmits. everybody did great, and thanks to Dave, and Fitz the rocks are moved away from the track a little farther.

Keep it above 100...............

Brian

Fitz 03-02-2004 08:37 AM

Now Brian, as I was driving along, I notice a few very very small river rocks;) so I just slammed on the brakes like the instructor told me to :3DSMILE: and then proceeded to gather them up and not make too much of a mess :D keeping the clutch in so the car wouldn't stall  backwards of course :MECOOL: Then drove off again safely and caught most of the other rock "gravel want to bes" :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:

coyled 03-02-2004 10:25 AM

Mike, master of off roading maybe. Suspension changes and brake problems had me chasing the car all day. I did feel good about passing the z06's, 911's and m3's on that short technical track with an ill handleing cobra. Were you out there mikie?Scott
