Pipes have arrived
My new exhaust system is now complete. The pipes arrived today.
Mike |
What new pipes?
|
Scott,
I'm changing over to the FFR 4 into 4 setup. A little louder and some more breathing. Mike |
The exhaust system is complete when it's installed.
|
Jim,
If I do not get it done tomorrow it will have to wait until after the run on the 4th. Mike |
Mike, just got back into town. How's it going with the pipes? Coated? Black? I told ya I'd help ya. But, noooooooooo, you didn't need any help. Now look what you've done!!
|
Old system off, Drivers side on. Had to make a new sparkplug tool as one plug fit but socket did not have cleareance.
Have quit for the day. To hot. Mike |
Good Job!!
|
Mike how is the fit? Are the body cutouts lining up OK?
Mike |
Mike,
Drivers side fits perfectly. The passenger side it is a little close to the front of the cutout and ine of the bolts hits the front splash aluminum. Ball peen will take care of that. I'll take it by Gordon's to see if he needs to trim the glass. Mike |
Hey, Mikie, Use the Ford Wrench! (hammer)
Ford Bob |
Bob,
I have a BFH. The F does stand for FORD. :3DSMILE: Mike, Upon closer inspection the cutouts will need enlarging. Both sides. passenger side. http://a1.cpimg.com/image/E7/17/3510...-028001E0-.jpg Drivers side http://a0.cpimg.com/image/E6/17/3510...-028001E0-.jpg You might want to prefit the body with the pipes on before you send off to paint. %/ Hi just looking at the Posts here. What type of system is there behind the four pipes? A collector into a muffler?? You mention it may be loud, is this for street use. What dB's Sorry about all the questions. Cheers Bernie |
MrPink
I was just looking at some photos of a black cobra with red stripes. Was this your car. Photos taken at a paint shop. Sorry about the questions - use to be a Cop. Say Hi to Hershal. Cheers |
Bernie,
The system consists of individual runners coming together at a flange. The side pipes have 4 individual tubes going into the muffler. The pices and headers join at the flange. you can see it here on FFR's site. http://parts.factoryfive.com/roadste...ne/engine.html side pipes are number 12363 headers 12467 I started the car briefly and the system is louder than the shorty ford pipes and j-tubes. The car is strictly street driven. I have 28,000 miles in 3.5 years on the road. Mike |
Mike
Thanks for this. The closeness of the pipes to the body may require some form of protection on the body? Have seen a piece of formed aluminium attached to the body where the pipes exit. Or you wrap them? I know my pipes are hot as hell where they exit. Cheers Bernie |
More ???????
Mike,
%/ Just shot back to that FFR site and spent a little time looking at cars there under colour choice. Did not realise that FFR had built so many cars. %/ I saw three when I was in Missouri at the Run N Gun at Gateway Raceway in October. I was impressed with what I saw there. Now that FFR site will keep me busy for an hour or two when it is quite here at work. Just a couple more questions on the exhaust. Do you know if the mufflers are straight through or are they baffled? What length are they approx. Cheers Bernie |
Bernie, not sure which pics you saw. That is my colors.
Jim |
Bernie,
I'm going to have the exhaust cutouts enlarged by Gordon Levy's shop He did the original body work and paint. As far as the pipes are concerned. The muffler section is 18" long. Overall length from where the pipes exit the body to the tip is 48 inches. Mike |
Thanks for the update Mike, looks great. That's a pretty good fit all things considered.
Even though I have the 4 into 4s I haven't given up on an undercar system, I plan to talk to Gordon about the possibilities (maybe trade the 4X4s for work etc). I didn't have any body cutouts done so if I do keep the sidepipes I'll fit the openings when I do the bodywork. |
