John what time do you want to meet in Winkelman and where?

Mike

John-Tucson 05-28-2005 12:31 AM

Mikiec, I drove the entire route today. From my place which is about 20 miles north of Tucson where we (the Tucson guys) will be meeting it is 190 miles. I would guess that it is about that far for you from the Apache Junction area. The time that it took me was 3:27 while doing the posted speed limits. With a stop for breakfast and a Dairy Queen you can add about 48 minutes which would put the total time to about 4:15. Plan to have breakfast in the town of Hayden, the town abuts the town of Winkelman. The resturant is " Maria's Family Resturant". It is located on the west side of the hiway and the fourth building on the right as you enter town. It is next to a sign that says "CJ's Tank & Tummy" . There is a large paved parking lot in front, the resturant has a sign on the building that simply says "Resturant". I also checked the number of gas stations and there are plenty ( even for Stuart). For your planing I'd suggest that you guys meet somewhere along Hiway 60 and drive east to Superior and then turn south on Hiway 177 for 32 miles to Hayden/ Winkelman . By checking on the map I think that if you guys depart Florence Junction ( hiways 60 & 79) at 7:30 am you'll meet us at the resturant just before 8:30 am. If you get there before us get your orders in because it is a small place. There is a major gas station about two blocks from the resturant at the junction of Hiways 177 and 77. To specifically answer your question : 8:30 am in Hayden at Maria's Family Resturant. Is that too early a start for you guys coming from the far northwest Phoenix area ? We can juggle the times a bit - my concern is the drive back home which I'd like to do before the heat sets in. Mikiec - PLEASE DON"T LEAD !!!!!

JKube 2 05-28-2005 12:54 PM

If you guys are going to be in Superior, maybe we can bring down our new NAF Daytona Coupe. It was built in Superior and lives in Globe. Let me know. You wont be disappointed.

John-Tucson 05-28-2005 07:37 PM

Hey JKube2, The Phoenix guys will be in Superior twice, once going south to Hayden/Winkelman, I'd guess shortly before 8:00 am. We all, the Phoenix and Tucson guys, will be there at the Dairy Queen about 10:30am. If you show up, Mikiec will be buying the DQ's. If you are in Globe have you considered joining us as we drive thru Globe ? We should be in Globe about 10:00. Please remember that these times are rather changable. I'd love to see your car. I stopped by the builder in Superior yesterday but nobody was home. John

JKube 2 05-29-2005 12:44 PM

I'll let the owner know. We will be back in the shop on Tuesday, sorry we missed you.

mikiec 05-30-2005 12:31 PM

JKube 2,

Any chance the shop will be open for visitors on the 5th.?

John the temp looks like it will co-operate. See you there.

Mikec.......

Where are we meeting and when? At the gas station off of the 60 where we go up to TFlats?

Later,
Brian

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 05-31-2005 08:48 AM

Sunday, June 5th

Hey Brian, yes the Chevron Station at Idaho and the Superstition. The same station we meet at for Tortilla Flats runs. At 7am. Boy, I'll have to leave home by 6am.
Mike, it's 63 miles from that station to Winkelman, over an hour's drive. Either we will meet up with Tucson late or we should meet earlier.

Bob

JKube 2 05-31-2005 09:56 AM

Thats a good question Mikiec. I will find out. I'm going up there today maybe be back online Thurs. evening.

dave from mesa 05-31-2005 11:56 AM

Am I to understand that this will be the last run till fall?
You mean that if I get my car this summer I will have no one to drive around with?
sob sob

mikiec 05-31-2005 02:56 PM

Dave,

I'm sure we can arrainge something.

Bob,

I'de rather be a little late in meeting the Tucson gang. It's bad enough to have to get up at 5 to leave by 6 to make it to the chevron station by 7.

Mike

mikiec 05-31-2005 02:58 PM

Brian,

Is Karl going to go? I'm trying to see if we can get a tour of NAF on that day. Figure he might want to see where his car was hatched.

Mike

Karl Bebout 05-31-2005 03:24 PM

Hi HO, and I mean that in a nice way. I'm thinking that I'll definitely have to be making the run. The car is due for a little thrashing. At least I live out there in God's Country so I won't have nearly as far to go to hook up with youse guys. I'm sure my sweetie won't be making the trip but my son inlaw might be here from Guam and if so, I'll drag him along. He'll eat my share of the ice cream, so kindly donated by the Tucson guys.

mikiec 05-31-2005 04:53 PM

Karl,

That's great news. I believe I owe you a window decal.

Now, if E.woods shows up I can give him his.

Mike

BT SNAKE 05-31-2005 06:22 PM

Hey! if I show up with a GT40, do I get counted ? :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:

Hersh:)

mikiec 05-31-2005 10:40 PM

Yes,

We should be able to count you twice. :) :)

Mike

Karl Bebout 06-01-2005 07:27 AM

Hersh should certainly be counted, but only if he doesn't run the air conditioner. If you don't get up a sweat, why bother?

BT SNAKE 06-01-2005 09:39 AM

Karl,
I thought we were buddy's, after all I do have a Chevy in my Cobra. OK,..OK..I'll turn the air off once just to see how it feelss.
Soon as the first bead of sweat comes out it's going back on.
Hey Mikiec, we better start recruiting cause that Tucson John is a sly old fox and he didn't start this thing cause he wanted to lose. He's probably got every Tucson guy coming and even the ones that haven't finished their projects. They will be on trailers.
If we lose..Oh the Humility of it all !!  :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:

Hersh:)

mikiec 06-01-2005 12:01 PM

John,

Trailer queens do not count. The cars must start in Tucson and finish there.

Hersh,
If more of them show up I'll just delare insolvency. :) :)

Mike

John-Tucson 06-01-2005 01:26 PM

WOW, where do I start to answer all of this ? First - Hersh - you can be an Honorary Cobra for this event only. Who ever thought that a guy who reclines as he drives, has air conditioning, enjoys a radio, and doesn't get his hair blown around, wants to be included with the REAL MEN. Doesn't that also describe a CORVETTE OWNER ? I suppose that by trailer queen you are refering to Scott - I'll have a talk with him about the trailer BS and make sure that it starts as he puts it in the trailer. Side note - about the Arizona Cobra decal, don't use RAIN X on it, the color will come off. Some of you seem to be concerned about the early hour, we can put it off by an hour, HOWEVER, rob Peter and pay Paul, the drive home will be an hour later and the sun an hour higher and the temp another 8 degrees higher. Please consider that the Tucson guys will have a 1 1/2 hour drive back to our starting point and then the drive back to our homes. 'ya can't please everyone but we are trying to do our best. For "Dave from Mesa", the Tucson guys drive all year, you are welcome down here if you feel the urge to drive with us. The road to Mt. Lemmon will be open ( paved) in July and we'll be doing a run to the top for brunch. And for BobB, when was the last time that it took you over an hour to go 63 miles in your Cobra ? Has age slowed you down that much ? See 'ya Sunday, whoever gets to the resturant first please order asap. John
