Default Done! (Almost)

After chasing down some leaks (speedo and oil pressure sender), I've finally put it all back together tonight. What a great feeling! And it sounds so much better with the tunnel in. ALMOST done, because I'm still waiting for headlights from SPF. Anthem thinks maybe this week. All I need is the buckets and trim rings - actually have the headlights themselves and they are wired and tested, just have to plug them in when the mounting stuff comes. So I'm hoping it can be done this week in time to get plates and drive to the picnic. Except for the 2 leaks, everything went smoothly, thanks especially to Rob Camp at Kieth Craft Motorsports who was very helpful in many ways, and to Cobish who drove over a couple of times to help. I'm planning on coming to the picnic even if I cant drive the SPF. If it isn't done, maybe Tues at the meeting at 5 'n' Diner.

Congratulations Tom. Boy! I can feel your excitement in your prose. See you at the picnic. Try to avoid downtown Carefree Sat 9am to 11am - parade. Go east to Pima road (Mapquest) then north to Cave Creek Rd.

Thanks for the parade info. I just love driving in the traffic; stop and go. Almost as fun as having free Beer potatoes in Ireland on the train during rush hour in the rain.....

Very cool! I bet you're excited.

Are those drag radials on the car? They look just like my MT ET Street drag radials.

Yep, Greg, thanks to you! (You and John Ames had a discussion about them at the open house in Jan., and with his input and yours, I went with the MT's.) I decided it was better to have sticky rubber than huge tires. The handling is wonderful! Even though I have no headlights, I've managed about 90 miles so far...just around the neighborhood, mostly. The drag radials are great - but I went with somewhat smaller tires than you. I figure, with a treadwear of "zero" I won't have long til I can change them if they don't work out. So far, so good, except for the stone chips on the front of the rear flares. They do get a little gooey.

Thanks, Bob - I'm very excited, but somewhat let down tonight, as the headlights didn't come today. Maybe tomorrow, but then it will be too late to get plates in time for Saturday. Hope to drive it to the Tues. night meeting at 5'n'Diner. I'll bring the Vette to the picnic, it looks like, unless the headlights arrive very early tomorrow. The car's very driveable now, and I have just a small seep at the water neck. Hope I don't have to take it off and re-seal it. Cranked down on the bolts a bit today - maybe that will help. They seemed a tad loose when hot. No major issues, though - clutch, tranny, engine all are great, and then there's that SOUND! Everything seems to work just fine.

Thanks, John - see you at the picnic. No liights today, so won't drive the Cobra. Come on over anytime. She sure runs well - getting a few miles, and still have a little leak (seepage) at the water neck. Maybe I'll drain some out next week and replace the seal.

I bet those drag radials will last longer than you think. Mine are still hanging in there pretty good after a couple thousand miles. I did about 20 passes with burnouts at the drag strip too. Mine don't toss a notable amount of rocks while running 18 psi cold inflation. Then again I just put put around about 95% of the time too.

Thanks, Larry - I tried to upload some more current photos, but even though I got a message saying the pictures were successfully uploaded, they aren't there. I'll keep trying.

It's now over TWO MONTHS since my SPF was delivered. And I'm still waiting for lights - I'm starting to lose my usual good humor over this. Two months since the car was bought and paid for, and I cannot register and drive it. I have uploaded photos, and the message says they were uploaded successfully, but they are not there either. Good grief. My warranty is almost up on the electrical system! Maybe this is part of their deal with Shelby.

Tom, Jeff Classic and I discussed what we thought you were missing and we are guessing the items are stock, non-unique items to SPF. He says he has all that stuff in stock if you need them now. Headlights and trim, tail lights and covers etc.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Finish Line has this stuff too, but Jeff would be my first choice as he is local...

Thanks, Bob. I think it's time to give up on SPF providing lights. Actually all I need to be drivable are the headlight buckets and trim rings (I think that's all). I have the tail, license and front indicator lights. The buckets were supposed to be in last week, and John at Anthem offered to rob some off another car so I could drive to the picnic, but that did not work out. I think Gordon Levy said he might have some too, and I'll check with Jeff as well. I guess I don't "need" them now, but it would be nice to be able to drive the car now that it's "almost" done. Then again, maybe I'll get a surprise tomorrow with a call that the headlights are in.

Thanks, Mulv - I thought about ordering from Finish line, but I keep thinking the lights are coming from SPF. They seemed confident that they would be in last Wed.

Thanks for all the help. Everyone at Anthem has been very helpful, and this is a problem that is definietly beyond their control. John even offered to let me borrow some lights for the picnic last week. Superformance is doing their best to get me some lights in a timely fashion, and maybe I'll have them in time for next Tuesday's meeting (heard that before!)...thanks to all for your help and suggestions. I have a tracking number, and SPF has agreed to ship them direct to me.

John Panfil at Anthem has always come through for me. That is why he is trailering my baby in to find out what's wrong this time. He was accurate and quick the last 2 times. My mechanic ability stopped at the erector set.
