Back from the Route 66 Cruise
Well, I'm home, unpacked and cleaned up. Great weekend trip with a great bunch of people. Left Kingman, AZ about 6:45am home about 10am with Jim Olson, Mike, Paul and me. Reasonable speeds only. Got unbelievagle milage with my 38 degree advanced motor.
3 tanks: 17.3mpg going up to Williams, 19.87mpg on Fun Run and 18.6mpg going home. What's up with this? I'm not going to complain! Abouty 1000 cars on Fun Run. Weather was great except for the freezing part in Williams. We may have an answer for that next year. Smooth Fun Run and great fun at night. See you all on the next trip. AZ Bob |
Also, Just got home. We made the mistake of stopping at a jewelery store. I'm poor again.
Hope everyone had a good time. We figured out the hotel snafu. Every one was assigned double beds. They ran out of double rooms in the back, so those left over went to the front. Bob mileage sounds great. Jim B ave 10MPG. It was good seeing Stuart up and around. Mike |
I got home around 9:20 with no issues didn't try to set a new speed record. The traffic was excellent maybe 5 cars between I-40 and Wickenburg and yes I passed them all. Mileage up to Chino 15.96 MPG, I had reset my computer In Tuesday + I was the last of our group to leave the Carefree Hwy and I had to run fast to catch up. Chino/Seligman/Williams 17.3 MPG. Williams to KingmaN 19.99 mpg. Kingman to Home ???? still have gas left.
|
Ya'll make me sick.. I never got more than 11.5 MPG with my car.
Glad everyone had fun.. Hope there weren't any INCIDENTS.. Wish I'd have been with you, but that's coming soon.. |
Since everyone is posting mileage figures..... Got 24.8 MPG for the total trip.

Hi Guys, Marilyn and I returned to Havasu Saturday afternoon to get the dog out of "dog jail' so we missed you all saturday night.
Had a great time cruising , especially down Hwy 40 in the AM from Williams. We were in the back looking at all the Cobras haulin...pretty cool. Marilyn said it looked like a string of NASCAR cars at Daytona. The best part was being out on the highway with so many types of cars from the past...really like that old primered model A touring car south of Selgman. Hopefully we'll get over to Phoenix to a local event one of these days. PS...Jim Olson your FFR is really Hot Looking, also thanks Mikec for your hospitality. Best Regards, Bill |
Great time, just excellent. My favorite part was Seligman to Kingman and the ride home today with Bob, Jim and Paul. Least favorite was the 95mph run on I-40 after we went the wrong way. I'm still finding things that rattled loose, including my teeth.
Got about 20+mpg going up and across to Kingman but didn't bother to check it coming back. I have a few pics to post including what was left of a low-flying sparrow near Wikiup. It just HAD to hit on the brake cooler grill.... PS, next year I'm bringing my own pyrometer. |
Next year pyrometers will be passe....
Wrong way? Who was leading? I know Lyle wants to give up his title. Mike |
The red Mustang. We went towards Willams for about 2 miles.
|
That's because they were going to Flagstaff.
Mike |
Yeah, but it threw us all off. ;)
|
How can you guys get those mileage numbers. I think you all coast down the hills or something. I think I got around 11. Running 80 @ about 3000 RPMs in 5th gear. Dam! Sent Mike about 100 pictures of the other drunk group (for the most part). Few of a lot of us at breakfast before returning...
|
Thanks Bob..
I'll check my email and get them in my photobucket acct. Mike |
For the pics that I have go here: http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/b...e%2066%202008/

Looks like everyone had a blast.. Tanman looks really good. Glad to see he's back on his butt suckin' down what ever it is he was suckin' down..

For those of you (I guess everyone) that didn't go to Oatman, you really missed the best part of the cruise. It was a beautiful winding mountain road into and out of Oatman. The best shopping (according to Lorraine) on the trip. The donkeys were really interesting to see walking down the middle of Route 66.
We left Kingman about 8:30am and stopped at an old Mobile (1929) service station. We sat and watched about 200 cars go by. We found them all again a few miles down the road at Oatman. No additional issues for me once the front suspension was put back together (Kingman). It was our first run and it was "FUN", according to my lovely wife. Glad all made it back safe and sound. What gas mileage??? |
Mike, what fell off?
|
Mike,
Yes, Oatman is the highlight of the trip. However after 8 years it gets old. And trying to find a place to park can be a nightmare. a couple years ago we were lucky enough to find spots right on the main street. Mike |
It was nice to see the gang again, Stuart, Barb and I made a slo cruz down south on my new motor just to make sure it was breaking in just right....
Gas milage what the heck is that about, it's not the gas it's who can get there first! (Yes it's true my car get's around 8mpg, damn!) I know the group was split at times but it really is getting quite large and hard to house in one area. It was good in Kingman to see everybody outside shootin the BS... Went to www.azrt66.com and slide #9 is Stuart's picture in his Cobra from last year, I was just checking out to see who won what and found that picture of him going into regestration.... Well, now that the car is running it is time for the boat! Getting to hot to drive.... |
